Aberdeen’s softball team tested itself against two defending state champions as we review Twin Harbors prep sports from Saturday.

Jackson 9, Aberdeen 0
When making the 2024 schedule after placing fourth in the state last season, Aberdeen head coach Jimmy McDaniel wanted his non-league schedule to be challenging.
Arguably the biggest test came on Saturday morning in a 9-0 loss to the defending 4A state-champion Jackson Timberwolves at Auburn Riverside High School.
In a game featuring several future NCAA DI players – including Aberdeen’s Lilly Camp (Grand Canyon University) and Annika Hollingsworth (Cal Baptist University) – extra outs and free passes proved to be costly for the Bobcats (5-1 overall).
The Timberwolves (6-1) did most of their damage in the second inning, scoring six runs with just one base hit as Camp surrendered five walks and the Bobcats defense committed three errors in the frame.
That was more than enough for Jackson starter Yanina Sherwood, a UNLV commit who held the Bobcats scoreless over five innings, surrendering two hits while striking out 11 to earn the victory.
Camp took the loss, allowing six runs – one earned – on one hit with five walks and three strikeouts in two innings pitched.
Hollingsworth (4 IP, 2R, ER, 6H, 6K) and Audree Gaddis (0 IP, R, ER, BB) pitched in relief for a Bobcats staff that surrendered nine runs in the game, three of them earned.
Aberdeen’s only hits in the game came from Laynie Yakovich and Hollingsworth, each of whom went 2-for-3 in the game.

Aberdeen 3, Adna 1
Aberdeen rebounded from a loss to 4A powerhouse Jackson earlier in the day to take on defending 2B champion Adna, and did so with glowing results.
Aberdeen got a stellar outing from starting pitcher Lilly Camp and key hits from Britten Neal and Shyanna Patrick to earn a 3-1 victory over the Pirates Saturday evening in Auburn.
Camp responded from a sub-par outing earlier in the day to dominate the Pirates (1-3), allowing one run on three hits and two walks while striking out 16.
Camp’s only mistake that had an impact came in the first inning when Adna junior Kendall Humphrey drove a full-count pitch over the center-field wall for a 1-0 lead.
With two outs and first baseman Annika Hollingsworth on third base in the Aberdeen fourth, Rylee Hendrickson worked a walk and stole second to set the table for Neal.
The Bobcats third baseman lined Ava Simms’ 2-2 pitch into left field, scoring Hollingsworth with the tying run and Hendrickson with the go-ahead run.
The Bobcats weren’t done as Patrick then singled to center, allowing Neal to score on the throw for a 3-1 Aberdeen lead.
Camp did the rest, working around one baserunner apiece in innings 4-6 and striking out the side in the seventh to secure the victory.
Laynie Yakovich continued her solid day at the plate with her second two-hit game, going 2-for-3 with a double to lead the Cats.
Aberdeen no focuses on a key 2A Evergreen League matchup against Tumwater at 4:30 p.m. on Monday at the Bishop Sports Complex in Aberdeen.
