GIRLS PREP SOCCER
Ocosta 5, Toledo 0
Ocosta had plenty of offense in a 5-0 win over Toledo in a Senior Night game on Wednesday in Westport.
The Wildcats (8-7 overall, 4-5 2B Central-Pacific) got three goals from eighth-grade forward Bristol Towle and two goals and thee assists from Kylee Denny in the victory.
Towle got Ocosta on the board when she scored off a perfectly-placed through pass from Denny in the 13th minute.
The duo would connect twice more for goals over the first 40 minutes, giving Towle a first-half hat trick and Denny three assists by halftime.
After the break, Denny scored on a direct kick from 35-yards out followed by a goal off a pass from defender Joanah Rosander to complete the 5-0 victory.
Wildcats keeper Amelia Saunders recorded her sixth shutout of the season. Saunders saved four shots on goal – including a point-blank breakaway attempt – as the Wildcats defense held the Riverhawks to eight shots on the evening.
“We came to play tonight. That was the best we have looked in a few weeks,” Ocosta head coach Mike King said. “We seem to be getting our offensive groove back. Our defense really came through tonight.”
King cited the play of Kennedy Reynolds, Gabby Ness, Marlee Cobain and Rosander for their defense, while also noting the play of Scarlett Nelson at midfield.
The game marked the final home game for senior Luz Morales-Oropeza, who was honored on Senior Night.
The Wildcats sit a half game ahead of Raymond-South Bend in fifth place in the 2B Central-Pacific League.
