Columbia Adventist Academy 3, Oakville 2

Oakville got off to a good start but couldn’t sustain the momentum in an up-and-down performance as the Acorns fell 3-2 to Columbia Adventist Academy in Oakville.

The Kodiaks (1-0) won the match 17-25, 25-22, 24-26, 25-5 and 15-10. Oakville (0-3) came out hot in the first set and played close games with CAA in the second and third sets but had trouble righting the ship when things got out of hand in the fourth set.

The service game showed itself to be a bright spot in the loss, highlighted by Alexis Starr-Wright who had five aces.

Oakville head coach Jessica Spitz said her team got into the habit of watching the scoreboard and lost confidence.

“We came in with great energy and as time progressed they watched the score go up and their energy went down as the match went on and couldn’t dig out of that hole,” she said.
