Adna 3, Montesano 0

Montesano struggled against one of the favorites in the 2B class this season as the Bulldogs fell in straight sets to Adna on Monday in Montesano.

Monte (1-1 overall) struggled on offense, managing just 16 kills in the 25-10, 25-14 and 25-20 loss, largely due to ineffective passing according to head coach Cindy Wecker.

“Passing was not good,” she said. “We knew Adna was going to be really tough and they were. We struggled to get a block up and gave up far too many points by being in the net. We have a lot to work on.”

Senior outside hitter Kaila Hatton led the Bulldogs with seven kills to go along with 23 digs.

BOYS PREP GOLF

Elma 188, Rochester 233

Elma’s Robby Allen earned his second Medalist honors in as many matches as the Eagles dispatched of Rochester 188-233 on Monday at the Riverside Golf Course in Chehalis.

Allen shot a 9-hole round of 42, highlighted by birdies on the par-5 fourth hole and the par-3 sixth to record the lowest score of the match.

T.J. Dunlap, who birdied the par-4 second hole, shot a 47 for the Eagles followed by Trey Yeager (48) and Brody Palmer (51).

“Great bounce back win for our boys,” Elma head coach Collin McMaster said. “While our overall team score may not indicate it, this was a much improved team on the course today. Many of our boys have never played Riverside and it is a tough track for first-timers.”

Next up for the Eagles will be a match against Tenino at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Tahoma Valley Golf & Country Club in Yelm.

Elma (188) – Robby Allen 42, T.J. Dunlap 47, Trey Yeager 48, Brody Palmer 51.

Montesano 171, Tenino 230

Montesano’s top four posted sub-50 scores as the Bulldogs picked up a 171-230 win over Tenino on Monday at Oaksridge Golf Course in Elma.

Colton Grubb led the way for the Bulldogs, earning Medalist of the Match honors with a 9-hole round of 40, shooting par on six of nine holes played.

Monte teammates Ayhdn Sauer, Caden Grubb and Aaron Black posted rounds of 42, 43 and 46, respectively, as the Bulldogs cruised to a 61-stroke victory.

“Our boys performed very well today. It was a slow start for some of our guys but they were able to string a few holes of good golf together to finish strong,” Monte head coach Tyler Grajek said. “Colton’s performance was consistent and controlled. One errant shot cost him a few strokes, however, he bounced back and finished with back-to-back pars. … Overall, a solid day of golf for the Bulldogs.”

Montesano (171) – Colton Grubb 40, Ayhdn Sauer 42, Caden Grubb 43, Aaron Black 46.

GIRLS PREP SOCCER

Ocosta 1, Raymond-South Bend 0

Ocosta moved to 2-0 in the early season by blanking Raymond-South Bend 1-0 on Monday at South Bend High School.

The game’s only goal came early in the second half when midfielder Kylee Denny read the defense and placed a drop pass to the foot of striker Bristol Towle, who sent the ball into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead.

Ocosta’s defense of Marlee Cobain, Joanah Rosander, Gabby Ness and Kennedy Reynolds did the rest, limiting Raymond-South Bend (0-1) scoring chances the rest of the way as Wildcats goal keeper Amelia Saunders recorded her second clean sheet in as many games.

“Our midfielders have done a great job at transitioning the ball to the offensive end and controlling it the majority of the game and working their give-and-go’s with our forwards,” Ocosta head coach Rissy Ness said. “Kylee Denny and Bristol Towle continue to be the dynamic duo in the center of the offensive end. … Tonight was another stellar performance for our Lady Wildcats.”

Ocosta hosts Hoquiam at 6 p.m. on Monday.
