PREP TENNIS
Montesano 5, Hoquiam 0
Montesano won all five matches in a girls tennis victory over Hoquiam on Tuesday at Montesano High School.
Bulldogs singles players Karissa Otterstetter and Ruby Jones won the top two singles matches by a combined score of 24-1 while teammate Hanna Craig won her match against Hoquiam’s Vrizza Renteria-Hernandez 7-5, 6-2.
The Montesano doubles team of Margie and Izzy Taylor defeated Megan Gilbert and Dylan Little 6-4, 6-2 in the top doubles match.
Ainsley Barbo and Emily Kuntz completed the sweep against the Grizzlies with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Arainuh Lopez and Ana Lopez.
Montesano hosts Columbia (White Salmon) at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Hoquiam hosts Stevenson at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.

PREP BASEBALL
Aberdeen 11, Black Hills 1
Aberdeen snapped a seven-game losing streak with an 11-1 mercy-rule victory over Black Hills on Tuesday in Tumwater.
The Bobcats (4-8 overall, 2-5 2A Evergreen) picked up a much-needed 2A Evergreen Conference victory on the back of an efficient offense and a solid outing by starting pitcher Hunter Eisele.
Aberdeen scored 11 runs on nine hits as the Bobcats took advantage of its offensive opportunities.
Aberdeen took a 3-0 lead in the first inning with just one base hit – a leadoff single by short stop Bubba Jones – and scored runs on a balk, a fielder’s choice ground out and an error.
The Bobcats added a pair of runs in the second when second baseman Trevon Ramos came home on a wild pitch and Eisele drove in Aidan Baker with a two-out single to left field.
Leading 5-1 in the fourth, Aberdeen scored four runs highlighted by RBI-singles from catcher Charlie Ancich, first baseman Baylor Ainsworth and right fielder Mylan Bruner to take a 9-1 lead.
Needing two runs in the bottom of the fifth to walk-off with the win, Baker singled to score Sam Schreiber followed two batters later by an Ancich single to left, scoring Baker with the final run to end the game.
Eisele was sharp on the bump for the Bobcats, allowing a run on two hits and two walks with nine strikeouts in earning the five-inning victory.
Ancich (2-3, 3RBI) and Eisele (2-3, 3B, RBI) led Aberdeen’s offense with two hits apiece.
Seven different Bobcats collected a base hit in the game.
Aberdeen plays at Black Hills in a game set to start at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Elma broke a tie game with four runs in the sixth en route to a 5-1 win over Hoquiam in Hoquiam.
After a venue change to Olympic Stadium due to wet field conditions in Elma, the Eagles “hosted” the Grizzlies on Hoquiam’s home turf.
Elma (8-4, 4-2 1A Evergreen) took a 1-0 lead on an Ethan Camus RBI fielder’s choice ground out in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Hoquiam (2-10, 0-8) responded with a run in the top of the fifth when a dropped third strike allowed Chris Bryson to reach base. Trent Graham raced home to score on the play, tying the game at 1-1.
Elma responded with three runs in the sixth, taking a 3-1 lead on a Grant Vessey two-run double.
Cole Gustafson then lined a single to right to score Camus. An error on the play allowed Vessey to race home for a 5-1 lead.
Vessey retired the side in the top of the seventh, getting a little help from his catcher Camus, who picked off Graham at first for the second out of the inning.
Vessey earned the win, allowing one unearned run on a hit, three walks and four strikeouts in 3 1-3 innings pitched.
Cam Green started for Elma, holding Hoquiam scoreless on four walks and two strikeouts without surrendering a hit in 3 2-3 innings of work.
Joey Bozich took the loss for the Grizzlies, allowing a run on a hit, a walk and two strikeouts in 2-3 innings pitched.
Riley Montoure started for Hoquiam, allowing four runs – three earned – on five hits with three walks and five strikeouts in 5 1-3 innings pitched.
Elma’s Vessey (2-3, 2B, R, 2RBI) and TJ Dunlap (2-3, R) were the only players to record multiple hits in the game.
The Eagles host Tenino for a double header at noon on Saturday.
Hoquiam faces Eatonville in a double header scheduled to start at noon on Saturday in Eatonville.

Ocosta’s matchup against one of the 2B class’ top-ranked teams was a one-sided affair at the Wildcats lost to Ilwaco 17-2 in the first game of a double header on Tuesday in Ocosta.
Trailing 2-0 after one inning, the previously-unbeaten Wildcats (6-2, 2-2 2B Pacific) fell behind 9-0 after Ilwaco (8-1, 4-0) scored seven runs in the bottom of the second, keyed by four hits – including two doubles – a pair of walks and a hit batter.
Ilwaco added a run in the third and seven in the bottom of the fourth – on seven base hits – to hand Ocosta the 17-2 mercy-rule loss.
Andrew Martin led Ocosta’s offense, going 2-for-2 including a two-run single in the top of the third to score Matt Wyland and Alex McGowan.

Ocosta lost the second game of its double header against Ilwaco 16-0 on Tuesday in Ilwaco.
The Wildcats trailed 4-0 after one inning and gave up 12 runs in the bottom of the second to put the game into mercy-rule territory.
Torence Bonina had the only hit in the game for Ocosta with a first-inning single.
Three Ocosta pitchers combined to allow 16 runs on 10 hits with five walks.
Four of Ilwaco’s hits went for extra bases, including two home runs.
Ocosta hosts Forks in a double header set to begin at 4 p.m. on Friday.

Aberdeen returned from its Spring Break hiatus with a 3-0 loss to 3A class Prairie on Tuesday in Vancouver.
The Bobcats (3-5) fell behind 2-0 in the 25th minute of the first half but shut out the Falcons (1-5-2) for the remainder of the game.
The game came down to missed chances in the second half by Aberdeen’s offense, which had several shots miss just inches off the mark and failed to convert on a penalty kick.
“It took us a little bit to get going, but we played really well for the final 50 minutes,” Aberdeen head coach Larry Fleming said. “We are giving ourselves a chance to win these close games but haven’t been able to get it quite yet.”
Fleming cited the hustle of senior forward Camden Friberg and senior midfielder Juan Serrano and “great defense” by Angel Espinosa.
The Bobcats junior varsity team remained undefeated iwth a 4-1 win on Tuesday, paced by two goals by Cristian Perez and a goal apiece by Trino Villar and Cristhian Mendoza.
Aberdeen hosts W.F. West at 7 p.m. on Friday.
