“I was really happy with how we played together as a team. We have a lot of new and younger players in some big roles and they exceeded my expectations for our first match. One thing that really stood out to me was our serve-receive passing,” Hoquiam head coach Heather Bozich said. “I thought our communication was really good tonight and our front row did a great job getting their hands on the ball to slow down Forks’ attack. Great start to the season for us.”

Freshman outside hitter Aaliyah Kennedy had a team-high 13 kills to go along with nine digs while Hayden Andrew added six kills for Hoquiam.

Onalaska 3, Raymond-South Bend 0

Raymond-South Bend struggled to find much offense in a straight-set, season-opening loss to Onalaska on Tuesday in Onalaska.

The Ravens (0-1) had just five kills as the offense never truly got going.

“Our passing off serve was off, which was a big part of why we got stuck offensively,” RSB head coach Julie Jewell said. “We had some great defensive efforts. It wasn’t a win, but there were things to feel good about. We will learn and get better from this game.”

Jewell commended the defensive play of Fatima Delgado and Ava Pine-Isaksen and junior middle blocker Kassie Koski for “a good all-around game.”

North Thurston 4, Aberdeen 1

Despite outshooting its opponent for the second game in a row, Aberdeen found itself on the wrong end of a 4-1 loss to North Thurston on Tuesday in Aberdeen.

Aberdeen JV lost 2-0 on Tuesday, with Kennadee Baller and Daisey Vessey commended for “good hustle” by Aberdeen assistant coach Lindsey Scott.
