Catcher Ali Parkin was once again one of the driving forces behind a prodigious offense with three extra-base hits and four runs driven in for the Bulldogs.

The standout senior slugger put the Dogs on the board with an RBI double in the first inning to score left fielder Liv Robinson – on board with a leadoff triple – then capped off a four-run second with a two-run home run to left field – her fourth of the season – to stake Monte to a 5-0 lead.

Montesano’s hit parade continued in the top of the third with six runs on five hits. The Bulldogs scored runs on Robinson’s second triple of the game, a Parkin double, a single from third baseman Alexa Stanfield, a double off the bat of first baseman Kylee Wisdom and a two-run single from starting pitcher Grace Gooding to take a commanding 11-1 lead.

Infielder Jaelyn Butterfield drove in Ember Jones with a fielder’s choice RBI groundout in the top of the fourth and run-scoring doubles by Preslee Barrett and Campbell in the fifth put the finishing touches on the Bulldogs victory.

Gooding got the win, allowing one unearned run on four hits with two walks and five strikeouts in three innings pitched.

Freshman pitcher Violet Prince allowed two earned runs on three hits with two walks and two strikeouts in two innings of relief.

Parkin and Stanfield led the way for Monte with three hits apiece as the Bulldogs had five different players with multi-hit games and nine players recorded at least one hit.

“Ali Parkin is seeing the ball really well,” said Monte head coach Pat Pace, who lamented his team’s two errors on defense but still felt his team played well. “Defense was a bit rusty coming back from Spring Break, but overall I was really happy with the team’s performance tonight.”

The Bulldogs are scheduled to face Elma in a much-anticipated 1A Evergreen League doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. on Wednesday in Elma, weather permitting.

Northwest Christian 7, Ocosta 2

Ocosta dropped its first game after a near two-week layoff with a 7-2 loss to Northwest Christian on Monday in Lacey.

The Wildcats (2-3) played for the first time in 13 days and fell behind early after the Wolverines (4-1) scored a pair of runs off Ocosta starting pitcher Dominick Hanson-Miranda in the bottom of the first inning.

Ocosta got a run back in the top of the second when Kevin Lopez drew a one-out walk and later came in to score on a passed ball.

NWC would make it a 4-1 game with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second and added three runs in the fourth on a run-scoring double, an RBI triple and a hit batter with the bases loaded.

Ocosta would score a run in the seventh when Logan White singled to drive in Troy Griffith to make it a 7-2 game.

The Wildcats had just three hits – two by Rustyn Quinby – and drew three walks in the game.

Hanson-Miranda took the loss, allowing four earned runs on three hits and four walks with four strikeouts in 2 2-3 innings pitched.

Relief pitchers Chris Arbona (2.1 IP, 0R, H, BB, 5K) and Torence Bonina (IP, 3R, 3ER, 2H, BB, K) combined to pitch the final 3 1-3 innings for Ocosta.

Ocosta takes on Pe Ell-Willapa Valley in a game scheduled for 4 p.m. on Thursday in Westport.
