GIRLS PREP BASKETBALL
Raymond-South Bend 56, Elma 27
Raymond-South Bend picked up its first victory of the season by defeating Elma 56-27 on Thursday at Raymond High School.
The Ravens (1-1 overall) pulled away by outscoring Elma (0-2) 20-0 in the fourth quarter.
RSB was led by junior forward Ava Baugher, who had a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds, junior Kassie Koski (11 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals) and point guard Megan Kongbouakhay (14 points, 9 assists, 7 steals).
According to RSB head coach Jason Koski, rebounding and limiting their turnovers to 11 compared to 26 in a season-opening loss to Napavine on Tuesday were the keys to victory.
RSB outrebounded the Eagles 37-30 and benefitted from 24 Elma turnovers.
“Really nice to see us dominate the boards versus a much taller opponent and to cut our turnovers down,” he said. “Despite missing multiple lay-ins and short-box shots in the first half, we were able to slowly pull away in the second half for our first win of the season.”
Elma was led by junior guard Olivia Moore, who scored 14 points that included 6-of-8 shooting from the foul line (75%).
The Eagles play at Black Hills at 7 p.m. on Monday.
The Ravens host Toledo at 7 p.m. Monday at Raymond High School.
Elma 10 7 10 0 – 27
RSB 14 10 14 20 – 58
Scoring: Elma – Moore 14, Bol 8, Lewis 3, Tolentino 2. RSB – Baugher 14, Kongbouakhay 14, Koski 11, Morley 8, Pine 8, Stigall 3.

Columbia Adventist 51, Willapa Valley 50
Willapa Valley suffered its second one-possession loss to start the season with a 51-50 defeat at the hands of Columbia Adventist Academy on Thursday in Battle Ground.

“This was a good competitive game from the tip. We gave ourselves an excellent opportunity at the end of the game to win, we just came up a bit short again,” Valley head coach Derek Rask said. “We need to learn how to close games and win and I hope these early-season close games help with that.”
