A flurry of second-half goals turned a scoreless tie in to a rout as Ocosta defeated Raymond-South Bend 4-0 on Wednesday in Westport.
The Wildcats (9-4-1 overall, 4-4 2B Central) and Ravens (5-8, 3-4) were locked in a scoreless tie until 10 minutes into the second half when senior midfielder Kylee Denny scored on a direct free kick from 40 yards out to put Ocosta up 1-0.
Seven minutes later, Denny repeated the feat, scoring on another free kick to double the Wildcats’ lead.
Ocosta took a three-goal advantage when eighth-grade defenceman Kat Nersten followed in a rebound off a deflection and buried a one-time shot in the back of the net for a goal in the 60th minute.
The Wildcats capped the scoring with their third set-piece goal off a free kick of the evening. Denny took a free kick from 50 yards out and sent the ball arcing toward senior midfielder Gabby Ness, who ran onto the ball and chipped it over the RSB keeper’s head for a 4-0 lead in the 73rd minute.
Ocosta freshman keeper Hollys Baldwin made seven saves to earn the clean-sheet shutout.
“This was an 11-player win where everybody on that field did their part to contribute to this solid win,” Ocosta head coach Rissy Ness said.
The Wildcats sit in fifth place in the 10-team Central League standings and host Winlock at 6 p.m. on Monday.
RSB sits in sixth place and will host Toledo at 6 p.m. on Monday in South Bend.
