Montesano and Pe Ell-Willapa Valley swept doubleheaders as we review Tuesday’s prep softball games on the Harbor.

PREP SOFTBALL

Montesano 6, Elma 1

Montesano starting pitcher Violet Prince pitched a one-hitter to lead the Bulldogs to a 6-1 victory over Elma in the first game of a doubleheader on Wednesday in Montesano.

The Bulldogs freshman right-hander allowed just one hit in the game – a first-inning triple by Eagles pitcher Ashlynn Weld – in another stellar outing.

Monte (4-3 overall, 1-0 1A Evergreen) opened the scoring when leadoff hitter Liv Robinson scored on a wild pitch in the top of the first inning.

After Elma center fielder Mia Monroe came home on a wild pitch in the bottom of the first, Monte regained the lead with three runs in the third, including a two-run home run off the bat of star catcher Ali Parkin.

Monte added a pair of runs in the sixth on back-to-back RBI singles from third baseman Lex Stanfield and Grace Gooding to go up 6-1.

That was plenty of run support for Prince, who worked around seven walks in the game while striking out 16. Prince threw 138 pitches in the game, 83 for strikes.

Robinson led Monte with a perfect 3 for 3 performance at the plate and scored three runs.

Stanfield had two hits and two runs while Gooding had a hit and drove in two runs for the Bulldogs.

Weld took the loss for Elma (4-1, 1-1), allowing four earned runs on five hits and four walks with seven strikeouts in five innings pitched.

Keira White allowed two earned runs on three hits in an inning of relief.

Montesano 16, Elma 7

After seeing a once comfortable lead nearly erased, Montesano’s scored eight runs in its final inning to power its way to a 16-7 win over Elma in the nightcap on Wednesday in Elma.

The Bulldogs (5-3, 2-0) grabbed an early lead when starting pitcher Grace Gooding belted a two-run home run to left with two outs in the top of the first inning.

Monte doubled its lead the following frame when left fielder Liv Robinson doubled to left, driving in center fielder Adda Potts and first baseman Kylee Wisdom for a 4-0 lead.

Elma (4-2, 1-2) cut the deficit in half when short stop Aubree Simmons smashed a home run over the left-field fence for a two-run shot to make it a 4-2 game.

Robinson would score when Gooding walked with the bases loaded in the fourth and a Regan Wintrip RBI single followed two batters later by an Ali Parkin two-run double in the fifth put Monte up 8-2.

But Elma rallied back with a run off a groundout by catcher Raelynn Weld in the fifth followed by a four-run bottom of the sixth.

In the sixth, left fielder Emily Comer doubled to drive in Lynsee Bednarik and Keira White to make it an 8-5 game.

Two batters later, Comer would score on a wild pitch before center fielder Mia Monroe singled to drive in Chloe Donais to cut the Monte lead to 8-7.

Raelynn Weld then singled to put Monroe at third representing the tying run with two outs, but Monte reliever Violet Prince struck out Jasmyne Kish to end the frame and preserve the Bulldogs’ slim lead.

But Monte’s offense got hot in the seventh, hitting five straight singles to start the frame followed by a two-run double to left by Gooding to take a 13-7 lead.

Later in the frame, Wisdom drove in a pair of runs with a double and would eventually come in to score Monte’s 16th run on a sacrifice fly to center by Charlie Fairbairn.

Prince struck out the side in the seventh to earn the save and end the game.

Ashlynn Weld took the loss for Elma, allowing 14 runs on 18 hits with four walks and five strikeouts in six innings pitched.

Robinson and Gooding had four hits apiece for Monte, with Gooding driving in five runs in the game. Weld went 3 for 4 to lead Elma.

“Two good teams played this afternoon,” Monte head coach Pat Pace said. “Weld threw well for Elma, but the combination of Gooding and Prince helped the Bulldogs pick up a pair of wins.”

The two teams will meet again at 6 p.m. on Thursday in Montesano.

Raymond-South Bend 25, Morton-White Pass 3

Raymond-South Bend hammered Morton-White Pass pitching for 16 hits en route to a 25-3 five-inning, mercy-rule victory on Wednesday in South Bend.

The Ravens (8-1, 4-0 2B Pacific) scored three runs in the bottom of the first – highlighted by an RBI single from catcher Ava Pine – and put the game out of reach with a 12-run second that included a Maddy San three-run triple and an inside-the-park three-run home run by center fielder Emma Glazier.

Already with an RBI triple in the game, second baseman Liz Lewis belted a three-run home run in the Ravens’ five-run fifth as RSB would go up 25-3.

Lewis and Glazier drove in four runs apiece, with Lewis going a perfect 4 for 4 from the plate.

Six different Ravens recorded multi-hit games, including right fielder Josie Houk, who hit a two-run inside-the-park home run in the second inning. Nine of the Ravens’ 16 hits went for extra bases.

Macey Enlow earned the win for RSB, allowing three earned runs on three hits and five walks with six strikeouts in five innings pitched.

The Ravens face Forks in a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22 in Forks.

Pe Ell-Willapa Valley 8, Forks 5

Pe Ell-Willapa Valley defeated Forks 8-5 in the first game of a doubleheader on Wednesday in Pe Ell.

The Titans (6-2, 3-0 2B Pacific) scored four runs in the bottom of the first on a Lauren Matlock inside-the-park home run, a Sophia Milanowski RBI single and a Karli Phelps two-run base hit to take a 4-2 lead.

PWV added three runs in the third – all with two outs – on a Phelps RBI single followed later in the frame by an Addison Merkel two-run base hit to go up 7-2.

Titans third baseman Rilyn Channell drove in second baseman C.J. Sipp with a single in the the fifth to make it an 8-3 game.

Eliza Barnum earned the win for PWV, allowing five runs – three earned – on three hits and seven walks with 17 strikeouts over seven innings.

PWV had nine players collect a hit in the game, led by catcher Sophia Milanowski with with three.

Pe Ell-Willapa Valley 18, Forks 5

The Pe Ell-Willapa Valley Titans scored in bunches en route to an 18-5 victory over Forks in the nightcap of a doubleheader on Wednesday in Pe Ell.

The Titans (7-2, 4-0 2B Pacific) smacked 12 hits for the second game in a row and took the lead with six runs in the top of the second, highlighted by a C.J. Sipp two-run triple.

PWV put the game into 10-run rule territory with an 11-run third capped by a two-run single off the bat off center fielder Lauren Matlock to take a 17-3 lead.

Four different Titans had multiple hits in the game, led by Matlock with three. Sophia Milanowski and Sipp drove in three runs apiece for PWV.

Eliza Barnum earned the win in the circle, allowing five runs – four earned – on five hits and six walks with six strikeouts in five innings.

PWV faces Montesano in a non-league matchup at 6 p.m. Monday in Montesano.
