Montesano clinched the 1A Evergreen League championship as we review Thursday’s full slate of Twin Harbors prep softball games.
PREP SOFTBALL
Montesano 17, Hoquiam 1
Montesano clinched the 1A Evergreen League title with a 17-1 victory over Hoquiam on Thursday at John Gable Park in Hoquaim.
The Bulldogs’ bats stayed hot, racking up 15 hits highlighted by home runs from first baseman Kylee Widsom and senior third baseman Riley Timmons.
Wisdom got things started for Montesano (13-3, 8-0 1A Evergreen) in the first inning, driving in shortstop Addi Kersker with a two-run home run to center field.
Hoquiam (6-12, 4-3) cut the deficit in half with a run in the bottom of the first on a Lexi Labounty RBI single to drive in Avery Templer, but Monte catcher Ali Parkin threw out Nadine Stewart trying to advance to third on the play to end the threat.
That was as close as the Grizzlies would get as the Bulldogs scored three in the second – highlighted by RBI singles from center fielder Adda Potts and second baseman Alyssa Maldonado – and three in the third capped by a Potts run-scoring double to take an 8-1 lead.
Monte put the game into mercy-rule territory with seven in the fifth, highlighted by a Timmons three-run home run to center and capped by Wisdom’s two-run double.
Kaitlyn Trail earned the win for Monte, allowing one earned run on three hits with a pair of walks and four strikeouts in five innings of work.
Wisdom and Potts had three hits apiece to lead Montesano, which had five players with multiple hits in the game.
Montesano hosts College Place at noon on Saturday.
Hoquiam will also take on College Place in a game at 2:20 p.m. on Saturday in Montesano.

Aberdeen 18, Shelton 0
Aberdeen made quick work of last-place Shelton in an 18-0 victory on Thursday in Aberdeen.
The Bobcats (13-4, 7-3 2A Evergreen) used an 11-run fourth inning to run away with the five-inning, mercy-rule victory over the Highclimbers (2-16, 0-10).
Aberdeen took a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first capped by a three-run home run from first baseman Lilly Camp, her third-straight game with a round-tripper.
The Bobcats added three in the third on RBI singles by catcher Alyssa Yakovich and third baseman Britten Neal to take a 7-0 lead.
Aberdeen blew the game open with 11 runs in the fourth on eight hits – all singles – five errors and three walks.
Laynie Yakovich led Aberdeen with three hits – including a double – three runs and three RBI.
Senior pitcher Annika Hollingsworth earned the victory, shutting out Shelton on two hits without a walk and 12 strikeouts.
Aberdeen sits comfortably in third place in the 2A Evergreen Conference with the win, 3.5 games ahead of Rochester and Centralia.

Elma’s offense put the hurt on Eatonville in a 26-9 rout in the first game of a double header on Thursday in Eatonville.
The Eagles (11-5, 5-2 1A Evergreen) had 28 hits in the game, with all 11 Eagles that stepped to the plate recording a hit.
Of Elma’s 28 base knocks, 13 went for extra bases, including a Callie Galligan three-run home run in Elma’s nine-run seventh inning.
Eagles catcher Raelyn Weld had a two-run inside-the-park home run in the sixth inning, a triple, scored three runs and drove in four.
Emily Comer also had four hits for Elma, including a double and scored three runs.
Elma pitcher Keira White allowed six runs – five earned – on five hits and a walk with five strikeouts in three innings pitched to earn the win.

Elma 17, Eatonville 1
Elma completed the twin-bill sweep with a 17-1 thrashing of the Cruisers in the nightcap.
The Eagles scored 17 runs on 18 hits as the bats stayed hot in Game 2.
Elma catcher Raelyn Weld led off with a triple in the bottom of the first and was followed by eight singles, including one of her own, a two-run hit to center to put Elma up 8-1.
Eagles center fielder Mia Monroe also had two base hits in the inning.
Leading 13-1 in the bottom of the fourth, Raelyn Weld, Monroe and Ashlynn Weld opened the frame with three-straight doubles followed by a Callie Galligan two-run home run, her second of the twin bill.
Ashlynn Weld earned the win, allowing one earned run on four hits and a walk with five strikeouts in three innings pitched.
Keira White had a strikeout in one hitless, scoreless inning of relief for the Eagles.
Elma is a game up on Hoquiam for second place in the 1A Evergreen League.
Elma takes on Raymond-South Bend at 3 p.m. Thursday in South Bend.

Ocosta moved to within a half game of second place in the 2B Pacific League with a 14-1 win over Ilwaco in the first game of a double header on Thursday in Ilwaco.
The Wildcats (14-5, 4-2 2B Pacific) put the game away with five runs in the top of the fifth on two hits – a double by Joanah Rosander and single by Brynn Rasmus – and two errors to take a 7-0 lead.
Ocosta scored sixth in the seventh to put the game away, highlighted by a Jolissa Schlegel three-run double.
Ocosta junior pitcher Jessie Gilbert was once again nearly unhittable in the circle, allowing one unearned run on a hit and two walks with 17 strikeouts to earn the victory.
Schlegel, Rosander and Rasmus finished with three hits apiece to lead Ocosta, which moved to a half-game behind second-place Pe Ell-Willapa Valley in the 2B Pacific League standings with the league victory.

Ocosta had a big game at the plate to sweep Ilwaco with a 17-7 non-league win in the nightcap.
Ocosta took a 4-2 lead as Zaida Morales and center fielder Jolissa Schlegel hit back-to-back home runs to lead off the frame.
The Wildcats capitalized on Ilwaco miscues to score four in the fourth, highlighted by a Jolissa Schlegel RBI single.
Ocosta added seven in the fifth, including a three-run home run by pitcher Joanah Rosander.
In the sixth, Morales put the game away with a walk-off, two-run home run to give Ocosta the 10-run rule victory.
The Wildcats had four home runs in the game, two from Morales, who led Ocosta with four hits and four runs driven in.
Jolissa Schlegel added three hits for Ocosta.
Rosander picked up the win, allowing seven runs – three earned – on six hits with no walks and eight strikeouts in six innings pitched.
Ocosta hosts Toledo at 4 p.m. on Thursday.
