Eagles boys, Bulldogs girls place second at annual season-opening meet; Hoquiam girls place fourth

Several Twin Harbors track and field teams competed in meets this weekend, highlighted by Elma and Montesano earning second-place in the team competitions of the Rainier Icebreaker on Saturday.

Elma, Montesano teams place second at Rainier Icebreaker

Elma’s boys team and Montesano’s girls team placed second in their respective team standings at the Rainier Icebreaker on Saturday at Rainier High School.

Led by two even wins from Eagles sophomore Ricardo Guadarrama in the boys 100 and 200 meter races, Elma scored 57 points to place second behind Onalaska (95 points) in the 23-team field.

In the girls competition, Montesano placed second with 74 points behind Rainier (90-5), led by a pair of wins by sophomore Haley Schweppe in the 800 and 1,600-meter races and a victory by older sister Samantha Schweppe in the 3,200.

Hoquiam’s girls team earned a top-five finish thanks to wins by freshman RenaèJah Burtenshaw in the 100, junior Sydney Gordon in the shot put and the 4×100-meter relay team of Emily Brodhead, Brittany Alcala, Katlyn Brodhead and Burtenshaw to place fourth overall out of 21 teams with 41 points.

Raymond-South Bend’s Chris Banker won the boys high jump event with a clearance of six feet, two inches.

Aberdeen sweeps team competitions at three-way meet

Aberdeen’s boys and girls track and field teams defeated Black Hills and Centralia at a three-way meet on Friday at Tigers Stadium in Centralia.

Aberdeen’s boys team scored 91 points to outpace the Tigers (46 points) and Wolves (24).

The Bobcats girls team placed first with 65 points, comfortably ahead of Centralia (49) and Black Hills (43).
