PREP VOLLEYBALL
Montesano 3, Tenino 0
Montesano is one step closer to locking up a 1A Evergreen League title after a straight-set victory over Tenino on Tuesday in Montesano.
The Bulldogs (10-2 overall, 5-0 1A Evergreen) cruised to a 25-11, 25-12 and 25-10 win over the Beavers (6-7, 2-3).
“The girls played well tonight,” Montesano head coach Cindy Wecker said. “Our serve-receive has improved tremendously since the beginning of the season, with (Karissa) Otterstetter setting and the depth of our hitters, it’s a recipe for success. (Liv) Robinson, (Kaila) Hatton and (Bentley) Warne are also doing a great job in the back court on defense.”
Montesano sits 1.5 games up on Hoquiam for first place in the league standings with three league games remaining on the Bulldogs’ schedule.
Monte had a key league matchup against the Grizzlies at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday in Hoquiam.

Forks 3, Raymond-South Bend 1
Raymond-South Bend lost a contest of the two top teams in the 2B Pacific League with a 3-1 loss to Forks on Tuesday at Raymond High School.
The Ravens (4-5, 3-1 2B Pacific) lost 25-21, 25-22, 14-25 and 25-20 to the Spartans (8-3, 4-0), which took over sole possession of the league lead with the victory.
“We played really well, so it’s disappointing to come away with a loss,” RSB head coach Julie Jewell said. “But I appreciate the improvement we showed tonight. Our offense output was the best it has been all season. I hope we can build on this and keep playing better each week.”
Setter Berklee Morley had 16 assists and went 18 for 18 from the service line for a Ravens team that served at a 94% rate. Ava Baugher had 10 kills as did Kassie Koski, who had 10 kills, 16 digs and six blocks to lead the Ravens.
RSB’s junior varsity team won 2-1 while the C-team split 1-1.
The Ravens host Chief Leschi at 7 p.m. on Thursday at South Bend High School.

Elma 3, Rochester 1
Elma is now tied for third place in the 1A Evergreen League after defeating Rochester 3-1 on Tuesday in Rochester.
The Eagles (5-6, 2-3 1A Evergreen) defeated the Warriors (0-12, 0-5) 25-23, 23-25, 25-14 and 25-14 to move into a tie for third with Tenino.
“It took us a bit to really get going, then we settled in and kept momentum,” Elma head coach Natalie Windle said. “We are a team that excels when energy is high and we are cheering loud and Jasmyne (Kish) really took the lead on that tonight. Ally (Warren) had a great passing game and put up some nice hittable balls when our setters had the first contact.”
Warren had 27 digs to lead the Eagles defense with setter Haylee Maners putting up 24 assists for Elma.
Hitters Haydenne Bogar and Jenessa Sackrider led the Eagles attack with 11 and 10 kills, respectively.
Elma sits one game behind Hoquiam for the second spot in the league and will face Tenino in a key league matchup at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday in Tenino.

Ocosta 3, Wishkah Valley 0
Ocosta took care of business with a straight-set victory over Wishkah Valley on Tuesday at Wishkah Valley High School.
The Wildcats (11-1, 9-0 1B Coastal-North) remained undefeated in league play with a 25-7, 25-8 and 25-10 win over the Loggerettes (1-9, 0-9).
“We played solid volleyball tonight,” Ocosta head coach Erin Snider said. “We focused on making clean passes, and smart plays. Ava Weimar gave us some good hustle and made a couple great saves tonight.”
Veronica Gruber went 100% from the service line with four aces while setter Ava Tucker (12 assists) and middle blocker Anna Davis (7 kills) helped lead Ocosta to victory.
The Wildcats sit 1.5 games ahead of Taholah in the league standings and will host third-place Willapa Valley at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

Taholah 3, Willapa Valley 2
Taholah emerged victorious in a battle of two teams tied for second place with a 3-2 win over Willapa Valley on Tuesday in Taholah.
The Chitwhins (9-2, 8-2 1B Coastal-North) won 21-25, 25-14, 23-25, 25-22 and 15-8 over the Vikings (9-3, 7-3), rallying from behind 2-1 to earn the victory.
With the win, Taholah sits alone in second place, 1.5 games behind Ocosta for the top spot in the league. Valley falls a game behind Taholah and 2.5 games behind Ocosta in the race for a league title.
“They’re a tough physical team,” Valley head coach Chelsea Kempton said. “Our girls did a fantastic job on the net and defensively tonight. Not a lot to be upset at when they play the way they did tonight. If I had to choose one thing we could have improved on, it would be hitting errors. Other than that, the girls executed the game plan almost perfectly. Really proud of the hustle they showed. This is a game we can learn a lot from and we felt we improved on many different levels tonight. We felt we played our best ball of the season and that’s a good feeling moving into districts in a few weeks.”
Alana Neva had 28 digs to lead the Vikings defense while Tylar Keeton and Paislee Hurley had 13 kills apiece for Valley’s offensive attack.
Taholah hosts Lake Quinault while Willapa Valley plays at Ocosta in league games set for 7 p.m. on Thursday.
