Raymond-South Bend 3, Willapa Valley 1
After dropping the first set, Raymond-South Bend rallied for a 3-1 win over Willapa Valley on Thursday at Raymond High School.
The Ravens (7-5) defeated the Vikings (10-5) 23-25, 25-19, 25-14 and 25-16 in the non-league matchup.
”In Game 1, we were our worst enemy. We missed six serves. In the huddle after Game 1, we talked about giving away those points and how it would have made all the difference in the outcome,” RSB head coach Julie Jewell said. “We stayed focused and took care of business after that. (RSB setter) Berklee Morley ran an effective offense tonight and our hitters did great getting their job done.”
Morley had a game-high 21 assists, mostly to standout hitters Ava Baugher (13 kills) and Kassie Koski (10 kills).
Valley was led by senior setter Sam Sheary (15 assists) and senior libero Alana Neva (30 digs).
“We adjusted a few things this evening, not always going to be pretty when changing things around but we had some great rallies and saw a lot of girls step up in big ways,” Vikings head coach Chelsea Kempton said. “We fell short when serve receive struggled and it’s always difficult playing on the defensive side frequently. It was a great match in a high energy atmosphere, didn’t come out the way we had hoped but we are ready to get back to work and keep improving every day.”
The game was the last home game at Raymond High School for the Ravens this season, which honored Raymond senior Ayla Hanson on Senior Night.
“I appreciate her for all her hard work,” Jewell said of Hanson.
RSB hosts Forks at 7 p.m. on Monday.
