One day after they met in a Myrtle Street Rivalry matchup, Aberdeen and Hoquiam picked up league victories as we review Tuesday’s prep volleyball action on the Twin Harbors.

PREP VOLLEYBALL
Hoquiam 3, Elma 0
One day after suffering a straight-set loss, Hoquiam rebounded with a 3-0 victory over Hoquiam on Tuesday at Hoquiam Square Garden.
The Grizzlies (6-4 overall, 2-1 1A Evergreen) won 25-15, 25-16 and 25-24 over the Eagles (4-5, 1-2).
Hoquiam was led by senior setter Katlyn Brodhead (26 assists), junior libero Lexi LaBounty (13 digs) and freshman outside hitter Aaliyah Kennedy (14 kills).
“I’m really proud of our fight in the third set when we were down set points. We never gave up and pushed through even though we weren’t playing our best. We really started off strong, passing well and converting their free balls. We got away from that towards the end but managed to reel it back in,” Hoquiam head coach Heather Bozich said. “I’m happy how we rebounded after a tough loss on Monday and we’re using it to motivate us moving forward.”
The Eagles were led by senior libero Allyson Warren (32 digs) and senior outside hitter Haydenne Bogar (9 kills, 11 digs).
“We showed some fire tonight and kept pushing. The girls were being aggressive and smart,” Elma head coach Natalie Windle said. “We are still growing and improving as a team and we will prepare for the next match.”
Elma drops to fourth place in the 1A Evergreen League with the loss.
Elma plays at Montesano while Hoquiam travels to Rochester to take on the Warriors.
Both league games are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Aberdeen 3, Shelton 1
Aberdeen remained unbeaten in 2A Evergreen Conference play with a 3-1 victory over Shelton on Tuesday at Sam Benn Gym in Aberdeen.
The Bobcats (6-2, 3-0 2A Evergreen) won 25-19, 25-19, 21-25 and 25-9 over the Highclimbers (3-5, 2-2).
Aberdeen was led by senior middle blocker Lilly Camp (21 kills), sophomore setter Mia Hallak (47 assists) and sophomore libero Sophie Knutson (36-36 service, 5 aces, 20 digs).
“Offense and defense were aggressive tonight . We played scrappy and passed well, giving our setter opportunities to give our hitters great sets,” Aberdeen head coach Desiree Glanz said. “In the third set, Shelton started to put up a block and hit at us and started hitting well. Our Hitters again played smart and adjusted by the fourth set. We set the pace of the game earning the serve and not giving Shelton an opportunity to do a whole lot. We are continuing to speed up our game and not give our opponents a chance to play their game.”
Aberdeen sits in a tie for first place with Tumwater and will face Black Hills at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Black Hills High School.

Willapa Valley 3, Lake Quinault 0
Willapa Valley kept pace with the 1B Coastal League leaders with a straight-set win over Lake Quinault on Tuesday at Lake Quinault High School.
The Vikings (8-2, 6-2 1B Coastal) easily dispatched of the Elks (1-8, 1-8) by scores of 25-19, 25-15 and 25-13.
“We got off to slow start, but we started seeing more of our pace of play pick up in the later part of the first set,” Valley head coach Chelsea Kempton said. “For us, it’s a major focus on passing the ball. When we pass well, good things happen. We’re able to control the pace and run our front row hitting properly. I’m glad we saw both of those improve over the next two sets.”
The Vikings were led by Sam Sheary (11 assists), Rilyn Channell (11 assists) and Paislee Hurley (11 kills).
Valley sits a game behind Ocosta and Taholah for the top spot in the league.
The Vikings host Naselle at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
