PE ELL — PeEll-Willapa Valley overcame some defensive mistakes in the middle innings to come away with a 6-4 victory over Naselle in a non-league baseball game Friday afternoon at Pe Ell.
A series of errors enabled Naselle to score four runs in the third inning and take a 4-3 lead.
The Titans (4-4) pushed across the go-ahead runs in the fifth. Hunter Hoke got the win on the mound when he pitched 2 1/3 innings in relief after entering the game in the fourth. Cub Bair, who had been behind the plate, took the mound in the sixth inning and finished the game to earn the save.
With the match-p coming over spring break, Titans head coach Kelly Barnum said he was just happy to get the win.
“We had some errors and we struggled with lead-off walks but its spring break and it can be hard for these kids to focus. I’ll take the win,” he said.
Barnum cited freshman Kollin Jurek, who went 3-for-3 and has earned himself some more varsity playing time after coming up with some key hits.
The Titans will return to Central 2B League play when they take on Morton-White Pass in a doubleheader on Monday.
