MENLO — In a battle of unbeated Southwest Washington 2B Coastal Division teams, Pe Ell-Willapa Valley showcased its experience and growing confidence against Ilwaco on Monday night.
Led by Kaelin Jurek’s 206 rushing yards and four touchdowns, the Titans never allowed the visiting Fishermen to cast their line in the muddy Crogstad Field turf en route to a 45-2 rout.
Monday’s game was a rescheduled game from Friday night, which was postponed due to storm concerns.
“With all of the work he put in in the offseason, Kaelin is getting better,” PWV head coach Josh Fluke said. “Our defense played well and everyone was going on all cylanders. In my mind, I thought we may get thrown off by playing on Monday, but the extra day or two of rest and a bit more film did help us quite a bit.”
Jurek had scoring runs of 46, 74, 4 and 22 for the Titans (3-0, 5-2), who ran for 353 yards against the Fishermen.
Tyler Justice, who was cited for his work on defense as a defensive end, added a 35-yard touchdown run in the second quarter and Ryan Shepherd returned a punt 45 yards for a score in the third quarter to set up the mercy rule running clock.
Ilwaco (2-1, 4-3) scored its only points by tackling Cub Bair in the end zone after Bair got an interception late in the first quarter. Bair finished with two interceptions on the night.
Josh Prestegord led the Titans with 11 tackles and younger brother Brad Prestegord added nine tackles. Justice and Matt Minton were cited for their work at defensive end.
On Friday, Pe Ell-Willapa Valley travels to North Beach in a key divisional game.
