FIFE — Forcing 29 turnovers, Elma remained unbeaten by topping Fife in a non-league contest Saturday at Fife.
Jalyn Sackrider scored 19 points and Quin Mikel added 13. But it was Elma’s defense that told the story as the Eagles (12-0) topped a Class 2A Fife team that entered the contest with a 7-4 record.
Sackrider pulled down 16 rebounds and also blocked five shots.
Elma scored the game’s opening eight points. Fife closed a 13-point halftime deficit to seven in the third quarter before the Eagles re-established control.
“We finished 2017 on a strong note and we are looking forward to league play,” Elma coach Lisa Johnson said.

LUMMI ISLAND — A last-second basket gave Lummi a dramatic win over Taholah in the Lummi Classic on Friday night.
Trailing almost the entire game, the Chitwhins (5-3) tied it at 57 when Zach Cain rebounded a missed Lummi free throw, dribbled the length of the court and drained a 3-point shot with nine seconds on the clock.
Disdaining a timeout, the Blackhawks immediately inbounded and hit a 15-footer with one second left.
Cain finished with 28 points and 19 rebounds, while James Orozco added 16 points and four boards.
The Chitwhins, however, were below their customary shooting standards, both from the field and from the foul line (1-of-6 in that department).
“We were 8-of-30 from the 3-point line for the game and we usually are a lot better than that,” Taholah coach Mike Rose said.
The Chitwhins resume Coastal 1B League play Friday at home against North River.

WRESTLING
Grizzlies second
CHELAN — Winning two titles, Hoquiam finished second in the Chelan Goats New Year’s Classic tournament on Saturday.
Host Chelan won the team title. Adverse weather limited the field.
Hoquiam’s Lutra Felten and Antonio Garcia won their divisions.
Felten pinned Pateros’ Ramerio Ambriz in 1:33 of the 106-pound title match. Garcia took the 145-pound crown with a third-round pin over Chelan’s Alvaro Arteaga.
The Grizzlies have five tourney runners-up. Hoquiam’s Alex Houbregs was pinned by Chelan’s Jaiden Buyas at 120 pounds, Chehan’s James Austin pinned Hoquiam’s Malaki Eaton in the second round of the 126-pound final and Hoquiam’s Brady Cummings was pinned by Chelan’s Eric Alcala in the second round of the 152-pound title bout. Chelan’s Skyler Gordon pinned Hoquiam’s Keegan Montgomery in the first round of the 182-pound final and Chelan’s Bryan Mendoza decisioned Grizzly heavyweight Zack Underwood, 5-0.
Hoquiam’s Austin Milton (120), Andrew Anderson (152) and Asai Villarreal (160), while Larry Leonard (285) took fourth.
“The team won the matches they should have,” Grizzly coach Terry Helland said. “I would have liked to have seen a bit more life from us in the finals round.”
Milton, who rebounded from a first-round loss and later avenged that defeat in the consolation round, was cited for a fine showing.
The Grizzlies travel to Forks for a double dual on Wednesday and will host the annual Grizzly Alumni Invitational on Saturday.
