The Montesano boys soccer team fell to 0-2 on the season and the Pe Ell-Willapa Valley baseball team lost a heartbreaker to Adna as we review Saturday’s local prep action.
BOYS SOCCER
Rochester 7, Montesano 1
Rochester’s offense was too much for Montesano to handle as the Bulldogs lost 7-1 on Saturday in Montesano.
Warriors goals in the 14th, 16th and 27th minutes had the Bulldogs facing a 3-0 deficit in the first half.
Monte’s Mateo Sanchez scored on a set piece to get the Bulldogs back in the game at 3-1 in the 38th minute, but Rochester responded with a goal just over a minute later to take a 4-1 lead into the half.
The Warriors (1-0) put the game away with a goals in the 45th and and 50th minutes and scored a goal with six minutes left in the contest to secure the 7-1 victory.
“It was an improvment from last game, though the score didn’t indicate that,” Montesano head coach Fidel Sanchez said. “We saw some good things from the boys today.”
Rochester outshot Monte 20-10, with 17 Warriors shots on goal. All 10 of Monte’s shots were on goal.

BASEBALL
Adna 11, Pe Ell- Willapa Valley 7
Adna scored five runs in the top of the seventh to defeat Pe Ell-Willapa Valley 11-7 on Saturday in Pe Ell.
PWV (0-1) trailed 5-0 after an inning-and-a-half but rallied to score five runs in the bottom of the second, the big blows coming on consecutive two-out, two-run doubles off the bat of Hudson Barnum and Garrett Keeton.
The Titans scored an unearned run on an error to take a 6-5 lead in the third and after Adna tied the game at 6-all on an RBI single by Levi Gates in the top of the fifth, PWV regained the lead when Gavin Hampton scored on a dropped third strike the following half-inning.
Leading 7-6, the bottom of the seventh began ominously for the Titans as PWV relievers loaded the bases with two walks sandwiched around a hit batsman. A second hit batter in the inning forced in the tying run and the Pirates took a 10-7 lead later in the inning on a two-run single followed by a fielder’s choice ground out.
Gates recorded a four strikeout inning in relief — striking out the side after PWV’s Jackson Lusk reached on a dropped third strike leading off the inning — to end the game.
Barnum led PWV with a 2-for-3 day a the plate with a double, run scored and two RBI.
Keeton started on the mound and threw 110 pitches in six innings of work. The PWV pitcher allowed four earned runs on seven hits, striking out five while allowing four walks.
Gavin Hampton took the loss for PWV, allowing an earned run without recording an out.
Eight of Adna’s 11 runs in the contest were earned.
The Pirates used five pitchers in the victory, allowing six hits and seven walks while striking out 13 Titans batters.
