Vikings 67, Gulls 57
MENLO — Logan Walker scored 24 points as Willapa Valley used its inside dominance to beat rival Raymond in a Pacific 2B League game Saturday at Tenoski Gym.
Matt Pearson added 18 points and Ryon Ashley 16 for the Vikings (7-1, 10-1).
The Gulls made 10 three-point shots, but Willapa Valley move than compensated underneath. Peter Hamilton grabbed 10 rebounds and Ashley seven.
“They killed us on the offensive glass,” Raymond coach Mike Tully noted. “We didn’t rebound the ball well at all and that was the difference in the game.”
Valley, meanwhile, committed only two of its 10 turnovers in the second half.
“We haven’t played a varsity game in 11 days,” Viking coach Jay Pearson said. “We were kind of stagnant on offense in the first half, but we found our rhythm in the second half.
Kaci Phansisay scored 12 points and Devine Souvannavanh dished out eight assists for Raymond (3-6, 5-8).
Both teams will next challenge league-leading Life Christian Academy. The Vikings will visit Life Christian on Tuesday, while the Gulls host the Eagles on Friday.

MONTESANO — Sam Winter scored 18 points as Montesano beat Onalaska in a non-league makeup game Saturday at Bo Griffith Memorial Gym.
The heavily favored Bulldogs (10-2) trailed 14-12 after one quarter. Monte coach Doug Galloway conceded that his team might have experienced difficulty adapting to Onalaska’s traditional ultra-deliberate offense.
“We put a little half-court trap on (in the second quarter) and that created some opportunities for us,” Galloway said.
Winter also contributed five rebounds and four steals. L.J. Valley chipped in with 17 points and five assists, while Trevor Ridgway had 11 points and six rebounds for the Bulldogs. Seth Dierkop grabbed seven rebounds.

WESTPORT — Paced by Steven Sotomish’s 28 points, improving North Beach thumped short-handed Ocosta in a Pacific 2B League game Saturday at Westport.
Rodney Washington and Ben Poplin contributed 13 and 12 points, respectively, for the Hyaks (3-6, 4-8).
Ocosta, meanwhile, was without leading scoring Zach Allton, who sat out with a knee injury of as-yet undetermined severity.
Wildcat coach Jason Quinby, who said attempts to pound the ball inside in the absence of Allton was “massively unsuccessful,” was encouraged by the play of some of his younger players in a fast-paced tempo in the second half.
“We might have found a rhythm on offense that might suit our (personnel) better,” Quinby said. “Now we have to work on cleaning up the defensive part.”
Cole Hatton topped the Wildcats with 14 points and eight rebounds. Quinby also cited the play of Evan Waara, Jose Sevilla and freshman Cesar Martinez.
On Tuesday, North Beach hosts Chief Leschi while Ocosta (3-6, 6-7) visits Ilwaco.

The Acorns (2-0 in league) erupted for 19 points in the final period to erase a 28-27 deficit.
The Elks (0-2, 0-6) had three players foul out and finished the game with four men on the floor. The Acorns, according to Lake Quinault co-head coach Chris Christiansen, had both a player and spectator ejected.
“It was a really crazy game,” Christiansen noted. “It was heated on both sides and it was a hard-played game.”
Kenneth Sellers scored 15 points and Eliceo Escobar and Allen Espinoza collected 11 rebounds each for Lake Quinault.

WESTPORT — Kristi Raffelson poured in 28 points as Ocosta handled Forks with surprising ease in a non-league contest Saturday at Westport.
Raffelson, who also grabbed seven rebounds, was dominant inside. But guards Kaylee Barnum and Erika Snider combined for 32 points as well. Barnum barely missed a triple-double with 19 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds.
“When they doubling down, tripling down on Raffelson, we got the shots from outside,” Wildcat coach Jason Barnum said.
The Wildcats (9-3) suited up only six players due to other commitments.
Ocosta hosts league-leading Ilwaco on Tuesday.

The Elks trailed 35-33 entering the fourth quarter. Jaylah Tatro, however, scored 19 points and Kat Neeland made clutch free throws down the stretch as Lake Quinault (1-1, 4-3) prevailed.
“We played a good, tough game both ways,” Lake Quinault coach Travis Carstensen said.
Neeland also pulled down 13 rebounds.
The Elks were aided greatly by Oakville’s 2-of-15 performance from the foul line and a key Acorn injury in the first half.

ILWACO — State power Ilwaco capitalized on South Bend turnovers for a Pacific 2B League victory Friday night at Ilwaco.
The state’s top-rated 2B team in RPI rankings, the Fishermen turned many of South Bend’s 28 turnovers into baskets.
“Ilwaco’s transition was the difference,” South Bend coach Gary Wilson said. “When you turn it over, they will score. Defensively, we did a great job in the half-court game.”
Hitting five 3-point shots, Jessica Sanchez topped the Indians with 19 points. She also had eight rebounds and five assists. Karley Reidinger had 11 points and four assists. Wilson also cited the play of Hannah Byington.
