Montesano 16, College Place 5

Montesano’s offense showed itself to be in postseason form with a 16-5 rout of College Place on Saturday in Montesano.

The Bulldogs (14-4 overall) hammered 18 hits in the five-inning victory, including three home runs in a six-run bottom of the fifth to end the game early.

Leading 10-5 in the fifth, Bulldogs left fielder Liv Robinson hit a two-run inside-the-park home run followed by catcher Ali Parkin, who went back to back after belting a shot over the center-field fence for a 13-5 lead.

After a double off the bat of second baseman Jaelyn Butterfield and shortstop Addi Kersker reaching on an error, Violet Prince stepped to the plate and lined a three-run home run over center field to give Monte a 16-5 walk-off, mercy-rule victory.

Parkin led the way for Monte with four hits – including two doubles – and drove in four runs.

Butterfield went 3 for 3 with three runs scored and a pair of RBI with Robinson, Kerkser and infielder Regan Wintrip all recording multi-hit games for Montesano.

Grace Gooding earned the win, allowing two earned runs on seven hits and a walk with seven strikeouts.

With the victory over the sixth-ranked Hawks (13-5), No. 3 Montesano extends its winning streak to seven in a row.

The Bulldogs can lock up another 1A Evergreen League title with wins over Rochester this week.

Monte faces Rochester at 4 p.m. on Monday in Rochester before hosting the Warriors at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.

An early lead evaporated by game’s end in Elma’s 13-8 loss to College Place on Saturday in Montesano.

The Eagles (9-5) seized control of the game with four runs in the first – highlighted by a Kenna Monroe RBI double – followed by three runs in the second on a Chloe Donais solo home runs and a Keira White two-run double to take a 7-1 lead.

But the Hawks (12-5) rallied for three runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings followed by a five-run seventh, taking the lead on an RBI single by Carli Ray followed the three straight singles to take a 13-5 lead.

The ninth-ranked Eagles were led by outfielder Chloe Donais, who stayed hot at the plate with a home run, a triple and two runs scored for Elma.

White and Raelynn Weld each had two hits for Elma.

Ashlynn Weld took the loss, allowing nine earned runs on 15 hits and five walks with 10 strikeouts in seven innings pitched.

Elma faces another tough non-league test when it takes on heavy-hitting Pe Ell-Willapa Valley at 3 p.m. on Thursday in Pe Ell.

Aberdeen 10, Shelton 3

Playing its third league game in as many days, Aberdeen handled Shelton 10-3 on Friday in Shelton.

The Bobcats (13-2, 8-2 2A Evergreen) jumped out to an early lead with five runs in the on an error, a sacrifice fly by third baseman Britten Neal, and a three-run home run to left by up-and-coming second baseman Ally Adams.’

Aberdeen added a run in the fourth when Neal singled to drive in Lecomte for a 6-0 lead over the Hiclimbers (3-11, 1-8).

Up 6-3 in the top of the sixth, the Bobcats added four more runs – highlighted by a two-run home run by star catcher Alyssa Yakovich – for a 10-1 lead.

Maysinn Jones earned the win in the circle for the Cats, allowing three runs – two earned – on six hits and a walk with six strikeouts in five innings pitched.

Aberdeen ace Lilly Camp started her third game in three days for Aberdeen and didn’t surrender a hit with two walks and three strikeouts in two innings of work.

The Bobcats host Centralia in a 2A Evergreen League matchup at 4:30 p.m. on Monday in Aberdeen.

The Pe Ell-Willapa Valley offense played home-run derby with a 15-6 non-league victory over Rochester on Friday in Rochester.

In a matchup between the Titans (10-3), the WIAA RPI’s eighth-ranked 2B-class team, and the Warriors (10-3), ranked seventh in the 1A, PWV tallied 17 hits and smashed six home runs as a team.

Leading the way for the Titans was center fielder Lauren Matlock, who had a huge day with four hits, three runs scored and two RBI.

Already with a single, double and triple in her three previous trips to the plate, Matlock lead off the top of the seventh inning by driving a 2-1 pitch over the center-field fence to put PWV up 12-3 and complete a rare cycle.

First baseman Jillian Hodel went back to back with a homer to center followed two batters later catcher Sophia Milanowski, who smashed a shot over center for her second home run of the game and a 15-3 lead.

Addison Merkel homered with two outs in the top of the second and Lorelei Smaciarz hit a two-run home run for a 9-3 lead in the fourth.

Eliza Barnum earned the win, allowing four earned runs on 10 hits and six walks with seven strikeouts over seven innings.

PWV faces North Beach in a 2B Pacific League doubleheader set to start at 3 p.m. on Tuesday at North Beach High School.
