Bates named all-tourney team

RENO — Montesano’s Evan Bates was named to the All-Tournament Team at the 30th Annual Josh Anderson Memorial Baseball Tournament at the University of Nevada on Sunday.

“Evan has always been a very good baseball player,” Bandits head coach Gary Larson said. “He is technically and fundamentally sound and he never misses a pitch. If they made a mistake, he made them pay all tournament long.”

Clubbers place third in Lacey Tournament

LACEY — The Aro Glass Clubbers senior men’s softball team won four of six games to take third place in the Lacey Tournament on Sunday.

The Clubbers, a team that has been competing for 50 years and is made up of players from the Grays Harbor and Renton areas, edged Vancouver USA, 24-23, to open the tournament and then cruised to wins over Log Cabin, 12-6, and Second Wind, 17-9.

The Clubbers then edged Vancouver USA, 15-13, before falling in back-to-back one-run games — a 16-15 loss to NW Silvers and 13-12 to the Pounders.

Wayne Ross led the way offensively for the Clubbers with a .739 batting average for the tournament. Bob Paylor (.667), Mike Hayley (.600) and John Delia (.600) also hit for high averages in the tournament.

The Clubbers will play in the Washington State Senior Games beginning Saturday in Shelton.
