Local throwers place at Junior Championships
DES MOINES, IA. — A pair of local former prep superstars placed in the top ten at the United State Track Aand Field Association’s 2018 Junior Outdoor Championships on Friday at Drake Stadium in Iowa.
Montesano High School graduate Jordan Spradlin placed eighth and former Raymond High School standout Karlee Freeman finished ninth out of 16 competitors in the discus competition, which concluded on Friday.
Spardlin, who competes for the University of Arizona, posted a mark of 48.96 meters (160 feet, seven inches) to place eighth.
Competing for Team Evolution Athletics, Freeman, who will be attending USC in the fall, finished with a mark of 48.50 meters (159-01) to place in the top ten.
Obiageri Amaechi won the event with a meet-best throw of 56.98 meters (186-11).
Freeman is also scheduled to compete in the women’s shot put competition, which begins at noon on Sunday.
