Montesano jamboree due Friday

Grays Harbor’s four largest schools will participate in the 10th annual Montesano Football Jamboree on Friday at Rottle Field.

Aberdeen, Hoquiam and Elma will join the host Bulldogs in the event, which begins at 6 p.m. Each varsity and JV team will compete in a pair of 20-play (10 per side) mini-games, staged on opposite sides of the 50-yard line. Varsity games will be on the south (near the parking lot) end of the field, with JV contests on the north end.

Admission will be $3 for adults and students.

The order of play:

South End (Varsity): Montesano vs. Hoquiam; Aberdeen vs. Elma; Montesano vs. Elma; Aberdeen vs. Hoquiam.

North End (JV): Aberdeen vs. Elma; Montesano vs. Hoquiam; Aberdeen vs. Hoquiam; Montesano vs. Elma.

Three locals ranked in pre-season football poll

Hoquiam, which is considered the favorite to win the Evergreen 1A League this season, will begin the season among the state-ranked teams after Wednesday’s release of the Washington State High School Poll.

Compiled by the Associated Press and voted upon by a panel of sports editors, reporters and other observers, the Grizzlies will open the season as the fourth-ranked 1A team in the state. Montesano, which finished in the state 1A semifinals last season, is ranked 10th in the 1A poll.

Pe Ell-Willapa Valley is the only other Twin Harbors school to earn a state ranking on Wednesday, coming in at No. 3 in the state 2B poll. The Titans lost in the state 2B semifinals last season. North Beach, the two-time Pacific 2B League champions, were listed as receiving votes, but didn’t make it into the top-10 spots.
