The Montesano Bulldogs opened the season with a big win followed by a scoreless tie over the weekend.
Montesano 9, Chelan 1
Montesano had a trifecta of trifectas in a 9-1 season-0pening win over Chelan on Friday at Chelan High School.
The Bulldogs (1-0 overall) got hat tricks from junior forward Adda Potts, freshman forward Jaelyn Butterfield and reigning 1A Evergreen League MVP and all-state senior forward Mikayla Stanfield in dominating Chelan (0-1).
Monte took a 3-0 lead after one half with goals by Potts in the 15th minute, Butterfield in the 27th minute and Stanfield in the 39th minute.
In the second half, the Bulldogs took a 6-0 lead on two goals by Stanfield sandwiched around another Potts goal before Chelan got on the board with a goal in the 53rd minute.
Monte closed out the game with two straight goals from Butterfield followed by Potts’ third goal of the game in the 74th minute.
Potts added two assists to her statline, both leading to Stanfield goals.

In its second game in two days to start the season, Montesano drew to a scoreless tie against Cashmere on Saturday in Cashmere.
Monte (1-0-1) outshot Cashmere 5-3 in a matchup of two perennial state qualifiers.
Three of Monte’s shots were on target while senior all-state goalkeeper Riley Timmons recorded three saves to keep Cashmere scoreless.
Monte plays at King’s Way Christian at 6 p.m. on Thursday followed by the home opener against Seattle Academy in a rematch of last year’s third/fourth-place state game at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
