Hoquiam scored three goals over the final 15 minutes of the game to earn a 3-0 victory over Ilwaco on Monday at Ilwaco High School.
The Grizzlies (1-4, 1-3 1A Evergreen) won for the first time this season with a goal-scoring blitz in the final quarter of the game.
Using a mix of varsity and junior varsity players, Hoquiam got on the board when sophomore midfielder J.B. Fabian sent a corner kick toward midfielder Israel Rosales, who headed the ball in the net for a 1-0 lead in the 65th minute.
Fabian doubled the Grizzlies lead with a shot just outside the 18-yard box and made it a 3-0 final with a goal off his own rebound.
“This was a fun game to play,” Hoquiam head coach Corri Schmid said. “It was a JV-varsity mix, with varsity players feeding the ball to our JV players to score. Falling short of scoring the first 65 minutes, the varsity players stepped up to the plate.”
Hoquiam hosted Chief Leschi on Tuesday.
