Three Willapa Valley hoopsters named league First Team

Vikings Adkins, Buchanan and Swartz named to respective 1B Columbia Valley All-League Team

Willapa Valley’s move from the 2B to the 1B classification this season has proven to be a fruitful one as the Vikings earned several recognitions as the 1B Columbia Valley All-League Boys Basketball Team was announced on Thursday.

Willapa Valley junior guard Tyler Adkins and senior center Beau Buchanan were named to the league’s first team after leading the Vikings to an 11-4 overall record.

Adkins led Willapa Valley in scoring with 13.6 points per game this season while Buchanan was second on the team in scoring at 9.5 points a contest.

Buchanan led the Vikings in rebounding as the 6-foot-6 center pulled down 9-4 boards per game in 2021.

Willapa Valley head coach Jay Pearson was honored as the league’s Coach of the Year after guiding the Vikings to the 1B District 4 Championship game.

Making the Honorable Mention list were Willapa Valley’s Riley Pearson and Derek Fluke.

For the girls All-League team, Willapa Valley senior Cami Swartz was named to the First Team after leading the Vikings with 11.3 points per game and pulling down 6.8 rebounds per game. Swartz also tallied 2.2 blocks per contest.
