Ocosta boys erupt in fourth quarter to beat South Bend

Wildcats 64, Indians 42

SOUTH BEND — Once Ocosta’s boys started working the ball inside, it was lights out for South Bend as the Wildcats put up 29 points in the fourth quarter to secure the road victory in a Pacific 2B League game Thursday.

Ocosta (5-7, 8-8) protected a slim lead for most of game but things really opened up when the Wildcats got good looks in the paint.

“We finally started working the ball inside which opened up shots from the outside,” Ocosta head coach Jason Quinby said. “We settled for jumpers for most of the game but we got better looks in the fourth.”

Ocosta was led by Kobe Beck who had 16 points. Raul Mora had 14 for South Bend.

South Bend (1-10, 2-13) will try to rebound from this loss with a game at Chief Leschi on Saturday. Ocosta will also host Chief Leschi on Tuesday.

ILWACO — Willapa Valley’s boys were in position for an exciting, come-from-behind finish but couldn’t hold on to the ball down the stretch in their loss at Ilwaco in a Pacific 2B League contest Thursday.

Willapa Valley (8-3, 11-3) got a big game from Ryon Ashley, who led the team with 24 points but the Vikings turned the ball over 23 times and struggled when given opportunities at the charity stripe.

Viking head coach Jay Pearson said Ilwaco played with a higher intensity than his team.

“We didn’t close to win it and we had one of our highest turnover games of the season,” he said. “Ilwaco was the first to loose balls. They just wanted it more.”

Willapa Valley hosts Northwest Christian on Saturday.

MENLO — It was a walk in the park for Willapa Valley’s girls as they strolled past Northwest Christian on Thursday at Tenoski Gym.

Vikings head coach Colby Rogers said he was glad to see all his players get minutes.

“We played good man-to-man defense to open it up and enjoyed well-balanced scoring. Everyone got to play today so it was good for the kids,” he said.

The Vikings will go up against Life Christian Academy at home on Monday.
