Dunn, who also tripled, slugged a solo home run in the third inning. German stroked a two-run shot in the fifth. Winning pitcher English Hyde helped her own cause with three hits.

Incredibly, all but one of Hoquiam’s runs were scored with two outs.

“The girls did a good job of making adjustments at the plate,” HHS coach Keith Reynvaan said.

Samantha Stanfield pitched a three-inning no-hitter in the second game. Stanfield homered in the opener, while Lindsay Pace pitched a five-inning three-hitter and struck out 13.

“It just took the team a little while to adjust to Tenino’s pitching,” Monte coach Pat Pace said.

The Bulldogs (7-0, 11-1) suffered their first loss of the season to Prairie, 2-1, on Wednesday night at Brush Prairie.

After the Bulldogs scored in the top of the sixth in that game on Stanfield’s double and Peyton Poler’s RBI single, the Class 3A Falcons won it with a two-run bloop single in their half of the same inning.

Titans split

ADNA — Host Adna handed Pe Ell-Willapa Valley its first Central 2B League loss in two years in earning a split of a doubleheader Thursday at Adna.

The reigning state champion Titans won the opening game, 11-3, but dropped the nightcap, 4-3.

Coached by Hoquiam High graduate Bruce Pocklington, Adna pushed across an unearned run in the sixth inning of the second game to snap a 3-3 tie. Two Titan errors were sandwiched around a walk in that inning.

“It was very uncharacteristic,” PWV coach Ken Olson said of the errors. “We didn’t play well and Adna fought hard, they pushed us. Losses aren’t always a bad thing at this time of the year.”

Sid Pollard homered in the second game for the Titans.

Katelyn McGough’s three-run homer highlighted a seven-run fifth inning that decided the opening game.

In an encouraging sign for the Bobcats, the score was deadlocked in a scoreless tie through the fourth inning.

The Bearcats got the bats going and had back-to- back three-run innings to create an insurmountable lead.

Aberdeen head coach Scott Wilson wasn’t discouraged by the loss and gave credit to Jalyn McDaniel for holding her own against one of the league’s best pitchers.

“The pitcher we faced today is probably one of the best in the league. We strung a few hits together to get a run,” he said. “Jalyn threw for us and was great today. I was very pleased with her outing and we made some great plays for her.”

Aberdeen (2-4, 4-6) will get a chance to bounce back from the loss with a home game against Black Hills on Friday.

In game one, Erica Bomhoff had four hits and three RBI and picked up the win for the Loggerettes, scattering three hits while striking out five in the 25-2 four-inning victory.

Sparked by Van Blaricom’s two-run blast, the Loggers cruised to a 20-3 win in the nightcap.

Hill earned the win, allowing three hits with five strikeouts and four walks in the five-inning, mercy-rule victory.

Wishkah Valley’s Kelcey Bernhardy had three hits with an RBI and Aleah Clevenger added two hits and two RBI in game two.

“We’re meshing together as a team and hitting well,” Loggers head coach Tove Reibel said. “It’s nice to get on the field and every game we’re improving.”

Reibel added she has been pleased with the way new pitcher Averie Perron has performed in relief duties.

Hoquiam head coach Steve Jump was impressed by McAllister but gave credit to the defense playing behind him.

“I thought it was one of our best games all year,” he said. “We got some great pitching and hitting from Sean and we made plays behind him. Its always nice to have guys to do that.”

Jump also highlighted Liam Odell, who has been playing well at third base and drove in two runs himself.

The Grizzlies (4-1, 8-3) will try to keep to push their winning streak to three games when they visit Forks for a doubleheader Friday.

Doing all of its scoring in the second half, Aberdeen edged Chehalis in an Evergreen 2A Conference contest Thursday at Stewart Field.

Although the Bobcats dominated possession, the first half ended scoreless.

The Cats (5-2, 9-3) broke the scoring ice in the 50th minute when Rigo Alavez caromed a shot off the far post following a crossing pass from Johnny Pizano. Tony Oropeza added an insurance goal in the late going on a nicely executed play also involving Hulizes Chavez and Trevor Dawkins.

Aberdeen might have been suffering a letdown after Tuesday’s dramatic upset of league-leading Tumwater.

“We did not play our best,” Bobcat coach Larry Fleming said. “We’ve been talking about the need to practice harder and with more focus on improving. Hopefully, this will be a wakeup call.”

Antonio Hernandez scored twice in a 4-1 Aberdeen junior varsity win. Assistant coach Alfie Bensinger cited Eduardo Chavez and Ricardo Ortiz for fine play.

The Bobcats will attempt to avenge an early season loss Tuesday at Black Hills.

“I’m sure Macey and Mylaina each wish they could have a few shots back, but they played well to lead us,” Bulldog assistant coach Jon Parker Jr. said. “The greens were much quicker than our girls have played this season, so it took some getting used to.
