Montesano teams go on the road to sweep Tenino

Bulldogs 61, Beavers 24

TENINO — Montesano’s boys held Tenino to single-digit scoring in all four quarters on their way to dominating road victory over Tenino.

Monte’s Sam Winter had a big night and came away with a game-high 14 points, along with six assists.

Donovan Albert didn’t score but came up big on the glass to lead the team with seven rebounds in the victory.

Monte head coach Doug Galloway was able to get all of his players some time on the floor and liked how both units played.

“Everybody played well. We moved the ball well and played good team defense,” he said.

Montesano (1-0, 9-2) is riding a five-game winning streak and will try to push it to six at home against Elma on Wednesday.

Hyaks 78, Indians 50

SOUTH BEND — North Beach’s Hyaks took flight on offense early on and never looked back in their 78-50 win over South Bend in a Pacific 2B matchup on Thursday.

North Beach (2-6, 3-8) cruised to the road victory with the help of Steven Sotomish, who put up 19 points.

In a losing effort, Drew Rose put up 19 points for South Bend.

South Bend coach Manuel Rangel said his team struggled to get shots to fall despite solid shot selection.

“We started off strong but our shooting went cold and North Beach made a lot of plays,” he said.

The Indians (0-8, 1-10) will continue to search for their first league win against Ilwaco on Saturday while North Beach hopes to keep the momentum going against Ocosta the same night.

PUYALLUP – Raymond played a solid first quarter but struggled to keep pace with Chief Leschi in Tuesday’s road match-up in a 69-41 loss.

Chief Leschi had three players score in double figures. Donnell Irving led the way with 20 points.

Raymond head coach Mike Tully said the defense struggled a bit after the first quarter.

“We were doing some good things on offense and defense in the first quarter but Chief Leschi just pulled away after that,” he said. “Irving just hit shots from everywhere.”

Devine Souvannavanh stood out for Raymond with six points, five assists and three steals.

Raymond (3-5, 5-7) will try to turn things around against Willapa Valley on Saturday.

TENINO — Montesano’s girls scored points in bunches from the opening tip and buried Tenino in an Evergreen 1A League game Thursday.

The Bulldogs (1-0, 8-4) were dominant at both ends of the floor. Monte head coach Julie Graves said her team was impressive all around.

“We got off to a great start, we played hard and played a complete game,” she said.

Zoee Lisherness led the Bulldogs with 20 points. Lisherness and Samantha Stanfield each grabbed nine rebounds and were cited by Graves for strong defensive efforts. Zoe Hutchings scored 18 points for the Bulldogs.

Montesano will have a tougher task at home on Tuesday where they will face unbeaten Elma.
