OYEHUT – North Beach’s boys picked up some momentum heading into districts by beating South Bend in a Pacific 2B League finale on Thursday.
North Beach (6-10, 7-13) got a big night from Steven Sotomish, who came away with 27 points.
On a night with three players scoring in double digits, Hyaks head coach Larry Moore said he enjoyed seeing his team work together as a unit.
“It was good team basketball and we really moved the ball around, which allowed Nolan Charley to get to the basket,” he said.
Moore liked what he saw from Charley, who scored 13 points and also pointed out Rodney Washington, who scored 14.
Raul Mora led South Bend with 21 points. South Bend (1-15, 2-18), is done for the season after failing to qualify for district.
North Beach will host Wahkiakum in a district play-in game Monday.

RAYMOND — Raymond’s boys couldn’t get comfortable in their offense and struggled to defend against Chief Leschi in a Pacific 2B League finale on Thursday.
Senior-heavy Raymond took time to recognize its nine graduating players in a pre-game ceremony but didn’t get things rolling once the game started, turning the ball over and struggling to defend Chief Leschi’s transition offense.
“They got turnovers and shots in transition,” Raymond coach Mike Tully said. “We couldn’t move the ball and we really couldn’t get anything going offensively.”
Marcus Anderson scored 28 points for the Gulls (6-10, 8-12)
Tully acknowledged the leadership of his nine seniors and the rebounding effort of Devine Souvannavanh, who grabbed nine boards.
Raymond will face Kalama in a play-in game Monday for a spot in the district tournament.

WISHKAH — Using their defensive pressure effectively in the first half, North River’s boys kept their playoff hopes by topping Wishkah in a Coastal 1B League game Thursday night at Brian Eager Memorial Gym.
Luis Nieves scored 17 points to pace the Mustangs (3-6 in league), while Adam Schreck added 10 points.
“As with games in the past, we had difficulty handling the pressure,” Wishkah coach Stefanie Baltzell said. “This is the best North River team in recent years, it was refreshing to see them with a team full of potential and talent.”
Wishkah freshman Joey Brenneman collected eight rebounds, four steals and three assists. Connor Tidwell pulled down seven rebounds and Skylor Boggs had five rebounds and three assists for the Loggers (0-9 in league).
North River hosts Lake Quinault in a critical contest Saturday. Wishkah closes out its season tonight at Taholah.

WISHKAH — Blanking North River in the second and third quarters, Wishkah posted a Coastal 1B League victory Thursday at Brian Eager Memorial Gym.
Wishkah interim head coach Kristi Christian said the offense found some success by attacking the paint.
“It was a solid all-around game. It was fun and it was in our favor,” she said. “We drove the ball and tossed it out to the wings a lot and it was effective.”
Christian highlighted Jesse Thompson and Erica Bomhoff for their defensive effort. Thompson had four steals and nine rebounds while Bomhoff contributed seven steals and nine rebounds.
Bonhoff also scored 17 points.
Wishkah (2-7 in league) took on Taholah on Friday and North River (0-9 in league) will prepare to close out the season against Lake Quinault on Saturday.

ROCHESTER — Host Rochester thumped Aberdeen in an Evergreen 2A Conference finale Thursday at Rochester.
