PE ELL — Dakota Brooks shut down the reigning state champions, holding Toutle Lake to just one hit as she led Pe Ell-Willapa Valley past the Ducks 3-0 in a Central 2B League game on Thursday.
Brooks struck out six in seven innings of work and allowed her defense to flash some leather behind her. The Titans (3-0) didn’t commit an error in the game and came up with clutch hits in just the right moments.
Back-to-back doubles from Katelynn McGough and Kamryn Adkins plated two runs for the Titans in the fifth inning. A single from Railey Smith in the sixth inning scored Grace Hodel to cap the scoring.
“You can’t say enough about Dakota, she has thrown two shutouts and has only allowed one hit,” PWV head coach Ken Olson said. “Defensively, we haven’t had an error yet and we have been playing in sloppy conditions. Sidney Pollard made some special plays and Kamryn made one great play stretching out to make a catch.”
PWV hosts Toledo on Saturday.

The Bulldogs’ Samantha Stanfield struck out seven and walked two in finishing with a two-hitter on the day. However, the Lumberjills pushed one run across in the first and third innings to provide the scoring difference.
“Both teams were very similar,” Montesano head coach Pat Pace said. “Except for the score, we had less errors and one more hit. Offensively, we couldn’t get the job done. (Madysen Bjorge) did a good job of mixing her pitches up. We just weren’t mentally prepared, which might fall back on me.”
On Tuesday, Montesano (1-1) hosts Tenino in an Evergreen 1A League opener.

Raymond meet
RAYMOND — Host Raymond used its depth to take the boys half of a multi-school meet on Thursday.
The Gulls totaled 149 points, 18 ahead of runner-up North Beach. The Hyaks also finished second in the girls meet, won by Northwest Christian with 133 points — 24 more than North Beach.
Raymond’s boys won only four events. Marcus Anderson accounted for half of those victories, taking the high jump by clearing 5-8 and the triple jump in 40-9.
“It really was the depth. We had a lot of seconds, thirds and fourths,” Raymond coach Mike Tully observed. “We scored in close to every event. When you do that, the points add up.”
North Beach’s Seth Bridge was a double winner in the shot put (49-8) and discus (162-5). The Hyaks took five of the top six places in both events.
Taholah’s Levi Jackson and Michael Flores went one-two in the boys javelin.
Freshman Lorin Cox and junior Tawni Blankenship each had a piece of three victories for North Beach’s girls. Cox won both sprints and anchored North Beach’s winning 4×100-meter relay team.
Blankenship was also on the winning relay foursome in addition to victories in the pole vault (9-6) and long jump (14-11).
Raymond’s Karlee Freeman captured the girls discus with a throw of 143-4, about a foot off her season best. She also recorded a 19-foot personal best in placing second in the javelin.
Angel Evans established a Raymond school record with an 8-6 girls pole vault.
Willapa Valley’s Amber Anderson lopped six seconds off her previous best time in running third in the girls 1,600.
Valley coach Dave Ege called his team’s performance solid.
“In this kind of weather, you expect a big dropoff and that didn’t happen,” Ege said.

ROCHESTER — A penalty kick in the 70th minute enabled Rochester to nip Montesano in a non-league contest Thursday at Rochester.
After surrendering a rebound goal in the 15th minute, the Bulldogs tied it about 10 minutes later when Kyle Cox converted a crossing pass from Connor Parkinson.
It remained 1-1 until Rochester cashed in on the PK with about 10 minutes remaining.
The Bulldogs, according to head coach Rick Denholm, had a significant advantage in time of possession.
“They had a few runs on counterattacks, but that was about their only attacks on us,” Denholm said. “As a team, we played well. A missed touch here and there, or it could have been different.”
The Bulldogs (0-3-2) host Aberdeen on Saturday afternoon.
