Aberdeen’s girls wrestling team won eight of 10 head-to-head matches to defeat Shelton in a 2A Evergreen League dual meet on Thursday in Shelton.
Seven of Aberdeen’s eight wins were via pinfall in the Bobcats’ first action of 2023.
“I was impressed at how well we wrestled coming out of winter break,” Aberdeen head coach Craig Yakovich said. “Shelton has some tough girls, so to win the dual that decisively shows how hard our girls have been working to improve while schools been out.”

GIRLS PREP BASKETBALL
Raymond 69, Elma 42
Raymond played one of its best halves of the season en route to a 69-42 win over Elma on Friday at Elma High School.
The Seagulls (8-4 overall) scored early and often, capitalizing on Elma turnovers that led to easy transition buckets to take a 22-7 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Raymond kept the foot on the pedal in the second quarter, scoring 24 points — eight apiece from guards Kyndal Koski and Karsyn Freeman — to take a 46-18 lead by halftime.
“Our energy the first half from the whole team was the best we have had all season,” said Raymond head coach Jason Koski, whose team scored 19 field goals off 14 assists in the first 16 minutes of the game. “We were able to score early on transition baskets off of a few turnovers to help us get an early lead. I loved how we shared the ball in the first half.”
Freeman led Raymond with 19 points, seven assists and six steals.
Kyndal Koski had 15 points and four steals while sister Kassie Koski added 11 points, five rebounds and three steals.
Senior Alia Enlow also scored in double figures for the Seagulls with 10 points, seven rebounds and three assists.
Elma (1-6) was led by Emmie Spencer with 10 points.
Elma hosts Aberdeen in a non-league game at 7 p.m. on Monday.
Raymond hosts South Bend in a 2B Pacific League game at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

Hoquiam 48, Tenino 18
Hoquiam remained undefeated in the 1A Evergreen League with a 48-18 victory over Tenino on Thursday in Tenino.
Hoquiam (7-3, 2-0 1A Evergreen) led 22-10 at halftime and used its full-court pressure defense to hold Tenino (3-10, 0-2) to just eight points in the second half.
Senior center Chloe Kennedy had a big game for the Grizzlies, scoring 16 points, grabbing 18 rebounds and recording eight steals in the victory.
Ella Folkers scored 12 points while Ashlinn Cady had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds for Hoquiam in the victory.
Hoquiam shot 28% from the field on 17-of-61 shooting and held a 44-28 advantage on the boards — with 29 rebounds coming on the offensive glass — 13 from Kennedy.
Hoquiam forced 41 turnovers and had 24 steals as a team.
“First half was slow going on the road and we could not find a rhythm against Tenino’s aggressive defense. We came out second half with a little more focus and our full-court pressure intensity started to pay off,” said Hoquiam head coach Chad Allan, who though lamenting his team’s 11-for-31 performance at the free-throw line, was pleased with the victory. “Great team effort and win tonight by picking up our defense in the second half.”
Hoquiam plays a non-league contest against Ilwaco at 7 p.m. on Monday.

Ocosta lost a 2B Pacific League game to Ilwaco 78-30 on Wednesday in Westport.
The Wildcats (3-6, 3-3 2B Pacific) struggled against the eighth-ranked Fishermen (8-2, 3-1), shooting 38% on 12 of 32 from the field and committing 28 turnovers in the game.
Ocosta trailed 17-4 after one quarter and 40-14 at the half.
Ilwaco outscored the Wildcats 23-6 in the third quarter to hold a commanding 43-point lead entering the fourth quarter.
Anna Davis and Miki Ness led Ocosta with 12 points apiece.
Ocosta faces league-leading Forks at 6 p.m. Friday in Forks.

Aberdeen fell behind out of the gate and never fully recovered in a 52-31 loss to WF West in a 2A Evergreen League game on Wednesday in Chehalis.
The Bobcats (6-3, 2-2 2A Evergreen) fell behind in the opening minutes of the game as the Bearcats (8-2, 4-0) started the game on a 9-0 run and put Aberdeen down 15-2 after one quarter of play.
Aberdeen started to hit shots in the second quarter, playing even with WF West 14-14 by hitting four 3-pointers in the frame.
In the second half, WF West took control by holding Aberdeen to six points in the third quarter and nine in the fourth.
Aberdeen was led by senior guard Maddie Gore, who scored 16 points to lead the Bobcats.
Marina Marll scored nine points — six on a pair of threes in the second quarter — for Aberdeen.
The Bobcats face Shelton at 7 p.m. Friday in Shelton High School.

Willapa Valley remained undefeated in 1B Columbia Valley League play with a 48-24 win over the Washington School for the Deaf (Vancouver) on Thursday in Menlo.
The Vikings (8-4, 5-0 1B Columbia Valley) got points from nine different players and hit 20 of 59 shots in the game (34%).
Willapa Valley led 15-4 after the first quarter and 30-6 at the half.
The Vikings outscored the Terriers (5-3, 1-3) 11-4 in the third quarter.
Senior Grace Huber led the Vikings with 14 points while fellow senior Brooklyn Patrick had three points, seven rebounds, six assists and six steals for Willapa Valley.
Lauren Matlock (9 points), Gaby Quezada (4 points, 8 rebounds) and Hadlee Russell (6 points) also helped Willapa Valley remain unbeaten in the league.

Ocosta 74, Forks 67
Ocosta picked up a big league victory by upending Forks 74-67 on Thursday in Westport.
The Wildcats (6-6, 3-3 2B Pacific) and Spartans (3-6, 2-3) were tied 30-30 at halftime before Ocosta took a seven-point lead halfway through the third quarter that extended to 12 points in the final period.
Forks would cut in to the lead thanks to Ocosta fouls, but never overcame the deficit as the Wildcats pulled to within a half-game of Raymond for third place in the league standings.
Senior Josh Figueroa led Ocosta with 19 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists and eight steals.
Xander Prigmore also scored 19 points while Kevin Agramon scored in double digits with 13 points for Ocosta.
The Wildcats recorded 24 steals as a team while committing just nine turnovers in the game.
The Wildcats play at Hoquiam at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

Five different Vikings scored in double digits to lead Willapa Valley to a 76-29 victory over the Washington School for the Deaf (Vancouver) in a 1B Columbia Valley League game on Thursday in Menlo.
The Vikings (7-3, 4-0 1B Columbia Valley) led 24-3 after one quarter and 36-13 at halftime.
Willapa Valley outscored WASD 25-10 in the third quarter to hold a 38-point advantage entering the fourth quarter.
Riley Pearson (12 points, 5 rebounds), Kolten Fluke (12 points, 6 steals, 5 rebounds), Blane King (10 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals), Kevin Ruelas (10 points) and Wil Clements (10 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists) each scored in double figures for the Vikings.
Willapa Valley went 33 for 71 from the field (46%), grabbed 43 rebounds, had 15 assists, 17 steals and just eight turnovers as a team.
