The Raymond Seagulls volleyball team celebrated its Senior Night with a straight-set victory over South Bend on Thursday in Raymond.
The Seagulls (2-0 overall) recorded 19 aces as a team in earning the 25-23, 25-12 and 25-19 victory.
Raymond head coach Bob Swogger noted that while the aces were a plus for his team, their serve reception wasn’t on par with the performance exhibited in a straight-set win over Ocosta on Tuesday.
“We had a strong night serving,” he said. “On the flip side, our serve receive wasn’t as strong as it was on Tuesday.”
“We mainly struggled on serve-receive tonight,” South Bend head coach Kelsey Staats said. “And Raymond capitalized on that weakness.”
Grace Busenius had five kills and six aces to lead Raymond. Teammate Sidney Swogger also had six aces to go along with her four kills. Hannah Miller added four kills and Tegen Fleury led the Seagulls with 14 digs.
South Bend (1-1) was led by Hannah Jewell (16 digs), Dayna Estle (14-15 service) and Kendall Harriman “for her consistency and fearlessness at the net.”
Raymond honored Miller, Fleury and Maddie Silvernail on Senior Night.
“(They all) have been dedicated and worked hard in the volleyball program,” Swogger said of his senior class.
Raymond’s junior varsity team defeated South Bend JV 25-11 and 25-6.
