A talented Adna team was too much for Willapa Valley to handle as the Vikings fell 65-21 in a Jack Q. Pearson Holiday Classic game on Thursday in Menlo.

Adna (6-4 overall) forced 27 turnovers from Willapa Valley (4-5) as the Pirates half-court defense caused problems for the Vikings.

“They are long, fast, deep and well-coached,” Vikings head coach John Peterson said of Adna. “They make you turn it over.”

Willapa Valley hit on just 8-of-39 (21%) shots in the game and trailed 19-4 after the first quarter of play.

Ana Chavez led Willapa Valley with nine points on three 3-pointers in what Peterson called “her best game.”

Hannah Hamilton led the Vikings with 11 rebounds.

Despite the loss, Peterson said he was “proud of the kids effort playing against a really great team,” and “they battled like crazy.”

Willapa Valley’s Chayse Coady was named to the Pearson Classic All-Tournament Team.

“She played really well in both games,” Peterson said of Coady. “She just does her job and keeps grinding.”
