Montesano’s Aric Jacklin — the reigning 1A Evergreen League cross-country champion — took first in the 3200 by more than a minute, crossing the line with a time of 11:01.73.

In a show of sportsmanship, Jacklin immediately went over to assist his best friend — Timmy Higgins — after the Hoquiam junior winced in pain after suffering what initially appeared to be an injured hamstring upon crossing the finish line first to win the 400-meter race.

The Elma Eagles picked up wins in the boys 4×400-meter relay and in the shot put, where junior Landon Ritter threw a distance of 39 feet, 10 inches.

The girls competition was dominated by Montesano with nine event wins and 227 points to place first as a team.

The Bulldogs got multi-event wins from junior Jaiden King, who swept the two hurdles races, and Ashlyn Devereaux, who won both the long jump and triple jump.

Hoquiam, which placed second with 108 points, had six event wins led by thrower Tyara Straka, who won the shot put and discus events.
