After a season that ended with the program’s first trip to the state semifinals since 2015, the Montesano Bulldogs had three of its players earn the state’s top honor.
Senior linebacker Marcus Hale, junior defensive back Zach Timmons and junior kicker Cristofer Tobar will forever be known as all-state players after being named to the Washington State Football Coaches Association’s All-State First Team for the 1A class this season.
“All three had tremendous seasons, and all three were well-respected in the locker room, and all three are better people than football players,” Montesano head coach Terry Jensen said of his all-state players.
Hale, who also earned 1A Evergreen League Defensive MVP honors, was a tackling machine in 2024. The versatile linebacker finished the season with a team-high 130 tackles (92 in the regular season) to lead a Bulldogs defense that allowed just 15.4 points per game in the regular season.
“Marcus was the glue of our defense,” Jensen said. “One hundred-thirty tackles speaks for itself.”
Joining Hale as an All-State defender was Timmons, a ball-hawk defensive back known for making electric, game-changing plays.
Timmons created five turnovers this season, including an interception returned 45 yards for a touchdown in a 42-0 win over Hoquiam on Oct. 12. Timmons was also fourth on the team in tackles during the regular season with 46.
“We didn’t play against any defensive backs this year that were better than Zach,” Jensen said.
Tobar earned his spot as an All-State Specialist after averaging 43.5 yards per kickoff and went a perfect 33 for 33 in extra-point attempts during the regular season.
In his first year of playing high school football, the right-footed kicker also went 5 of 6 on field-goal attempts, including two key makes in a 34-28 win over then-No. 1 Nooksack Valley on Oct. 25.
“Cristofer was a gigantic weapon for us,” Jensen said. “He will continue to improve because of how hard he works.”
