VOLLEYBALL

Loggerettes top Elks

WISHKAH — Erica Bomhoff served 10 aces to help Wishkah hand Lake Quinault its first league volleyball loss, 25-11, 25-16, 25-15, in a Coastal 1B League contest Tuesday at Brian Eager Memorial Gym.

The win enabled the Loggerettes (6-1 in league) to draw within a half-game of Lake Quinault, which has completed league play at 7-1 (and 10-2 overall).

If Wishkah downs Taholah at home Thursday in its final league match, the Loggerettes and Elks will play off for the league title at 6 p.m. Friday at Amanda Park.

Bomhoff and teammate Megan Hill connected on 100 percent of their serves. Hill served 15 consecutive points in the third set.

“Our girls were impressive tonight,” Wishkah coach Darci McMaster said. “They were diving for every ball, playing tough defense at the net and working together as a team.”

“We couldn’t return their serves,” Lake Quinault coach Sue Kalama lamented. “We didn’t have our heads in the game.”

Bobcats fall in three

Centralia spoiled Aberdeen’s home finale by handing the Bobcats a 25-14, 25-14, 25-11 defeat in Evergreen 2A Conference play on Tuesday at Sam Benn Gym.

The visiting Tigers dominated play throughout.

“Our serve-receive struggled, so we didn’t have any offense tonight and our defense wasn’t moving around,” Aberdeen coach Doug Basler said. “We played two great games last week, so I was surprised by the letdown.”

Aberdeen’s Malynda Winston went 9-for-9 serving.

Bobcat senior Holly Bergeson and Izabella Gill, a junior who is graduating early, were honored in Senior Night ceremonies.

Aberdeen won the JV and C squad matches in two sets apiece.

The Bobcats (1-8, 2-12) close out their season at Rochester on Thursday.

Bulldogs lose in five

FORKS —Montesano fell to Forks in five sets, losing the first, third and fifth sets against the Spartans Tuesday night.

Forks (3-4, 8-5) won the fifth sets 15-13 in a close match that featured a lot of back and forth action. Other set scores were not reported.

McKenna Miller had a solid game for the Bulldogs (4-4, 7-7) in the defeat, coming away with 10 kills. Maylaina Parker had a good game defensively to come away with 24 digs and eight aces.

“They fought really hard and worked together as a team,” Monte coach Renee Volz said. “The energy was high and they definitely rallied. They fought all the way to the end.”

Montesano’s C team lost and the junior varsity team came away with a three-set victory.

Drawing the league bye on Thursday, the Bulldogs will compete in the District IV 1A Tournament next week.

GIRLS SOCCER

Bulldog coach Fidel Sanchez used a mixture of varsity and JV performers against the undermanned Spartans, who have struggled with roster numbers throughout the season. Scoring details were unavailable.

Completing the regular season at 8-0 in league and 13-1-1 overall, the Bulldogs will host a district semifinal on Nov. 2.
