Bobcats rally in five

ROCHESTER — Aberdeen found its rhythm offensively and rallied to defeat Rochester 3-2 (25-22, 20-25, 21-25, 25-22, 15-7) in an Evergreen 2A Conference match at Rochester on Tuesday.

The Bobcats (1-4, 1-8) were led offensively by Jillian Swor, who finished with 12 kills, and Haley Farrer, who added eight kills. Anna Arquette added six kills and four blocks. Adrianna Roberts and Haley Raines shared setting duties for the Bobcats, with Roberts earning 14 assists and Raines adding 10 assists. Tamara Corona chipped in with 15 digs.

“It is the first time that we have put that full match together,” Aberdeen coach Doug Basler said. “Offensively, we were just hitting the ball with a lot more confidence. Our offense was a lot more productive than it has been in the past two weeks and I think that was because we were in a better rhythm. It was just a much better game and a much better energy.”

Basler cited Jalyn McDaniel for her service. McDaniel was 22-24 serving on the night with two aces.

Aberdeen also won the JV match in three sets.

Aberdeen hosts Black Hills on Thursday.

Eagles fly past Spartans in four

ELMA — Elma took control in the final two sets to defeat Forks 3-1 (28-26, 19-25, 25-13, 25-13) in an Evergreen 1A League match at Elma on Tuesday.

After being pushed in the first set and losing the second set to the Spartans, Elma rolled in the final two sets to seal the victory.

“We had a pretty close first game and had a tough battle in the second set, but the girls played really well as a team in the third and fourth games and played with a lot of energy,” Elma coach Kendra Henry said. “It was a good team effort.”

Elma was led by Kenna Stoney, who finished with seven aces, 13 kills and 24 assists, while Kaylee Rambo added nine kills.

Forks won the junior varsity match.

Elma (3-1, 5-5) hosts Montesano on Thursday.

Wildcats sweep Indians

WESTPORT — Ocosta’s defense helped pave the way for a sweep of South Bend 3-0 (25-14, 25-13, 25-17) in a Pacific 2B League match at Ocosta on Tuesday.

The Wildcats (3-1, 8-2) were led by the 15 kills and 100 percent service of Kaylee Barnum as well as eight kills and 10 assists from Erika Snider. The key for Ocosta came in the form of three players with nine or more digs. Emily Snider added nine digs, while Emily Arndt added 11 digs and Evalyn Marsh added 10 digs. Alivia Marsh had five blocks at the net for Ocosta.

“We did a really good job tonight of digging,” Ocosta coach Barbara Rasmus said. “Our serve-receive was great. We didn’t pass very well against Northwest Christian and so we worked on that all week and the girls did really well tonight.”

South Bend was led by eight kills and five blocks from Jessica Sanchez and six kills and four blocks from Karley Reidinger. Katelyn Doyle added eight digs for the Tribe.

“Tonight we struggled a bit on serve-receive,” South Bend coach Jackie Sanchez said. “This is a brand new lineup for us tonight and it is going to take a while for us to get some chemistry.”

Sanchez cited Jessica Sanchez and Joshlynne Johnson for their serve-receive.

South Bend won the JV match in two sets, while the C-squads split the contest.

South Bend (1-2, 3-6) hosts Chief Leschi on Thursday, while Ocosta is off until Oct. 20 when it travels to Chief Leschi.

Gulls fly by Hyaks

RAYMOND — Host Raymond has been trying to reach its potential all season and its search continues even in a 25-22, 25-14, 25-15 win over North Beach in Pacific 2B League play on Tuesday.

Winter Newman led the Gulls (2-1, 7-2) with seven kills and 20 digs and Mikayla Collins added six kills and eight aces.

“We won, but the girls believe they haven’t reached their potential yet,” Raymond head coach Bob Swogger said. “We don’t have very much time left in the regular season to find it. The girls recognize they have to pick up the intensity and play. They know they can be better.”

Maddi Murray was cited for her work off the bench.

“We battled them in the first game, but we have three missed serves in the second game and that hurt us,” North Beach head coach Jessica Preisinger said. “We felt pretty good about the game we playe today. We were a much better team on the court than we were the last time we played. And, that’s all you can ask for.”

Nettie Fruh was cited for her all-around play for the Hyaks (1-3, 3-6).

On Thursday, Raymond travels to Ilwaco and North Beach hosts Life Christian.

Vikings sweep Fishermen

Madison Huber led the Vikings (2-2, 4-6) with six kills and Grace Hodel added five kills.

The Elks got three aces each from Alex Blackburn and Espy Silva, who were cited for their serving along with Jema Ochoa.

“Our team struggled, but once I looked at the scores, we were right in it,” Quinault head coach Sue Kalama said. “We’ll be ready next time.”

On Friday, Lake Quinault (3-1, 6-1) hosts Mary M. Knight.

GIRLS SOCCER

Grizzlies 4, Beavers 3

TENINO — Hoquiam scored the first two goals of each half and came away with the victory over Tenino in an Evergreen 1A League match at Tenino on Tuesday.

Hoquiam (2-2. 5-7) worked the ball and concentrated on possession in the match and it paid off for the Grizzlies in the form of scoring opportunities.

“Overall, this was probably the best possession game we’ve had all season,” Hoquiam coach Drew Grannemann said. “We were able to move the ball outside and utilize our defense to create attacks. It was quality soccer with just a couple of slip ups. It is what we have been trying to do all season and it feels good to finally do it.”

Hoquiam got on the board first in the 15th minute with Maya Jump sending home a cross from Casey Mode. The Grizzlies added a second goal just four minutes later when Taylor Strom chipped the ball in to Mode, who made one touch before sending it on to Emma Skinner, who blasted the ball into the net.

Tenino tied the game back up at 2-2 with goals in the 37th and 39th minutes to even things up at halftime.

Skinner added another goal in the 45th minute when Jump worked the ball and found Skinner open in space. Skinner beat the goalkeeper 1-on-1 to give Hoquiam a 3-2 lead.

Mode took a through ball and scored 10 minutes later to give Hoquiam the lead for good.

Grannemann cited Mode for an exceptional game.

Hoquiam travels to Forks Oct. 18.

Eagles 8, Spartans 0

ELMA — Brooke Sutherby scored a hat truck, while five other Elma players scored to secure an Evergreen 1A League win over Forks at Davis Field on Tuesday.

Molly Johnston, Kassedy Olson, Jillian Bieker, Peyton Elliott and Kaelyn Burgher also scored for the Eagles (3-1, 8-3), who led 8-0 at the half.

“The girls’ passing is improving, as well as our possession,” Elma head coach Scott Rockey said. “We’re ramping up for Thursday’s game. We’ve been working toward that game since our last meeting.”

On Thursday, Elma hosts Montesano in a matchup of the top-two teams in league.

Eagles 3, Wildcats 2

PUYALLUP — A breakaway goal on a turnover in the final seconds of the match allowed Life Christian Academy to edge out Ocosta in this Central 2B League contest on Tuesday night.

Kjirstin Hopfer tied the match for the Wildcats (4-5, 6-5) in the 72nd minute on a through ball from Rebecca Holm. However, a misplayed ball led to the breakaway and the winning goal for the Eagles.

“Overall, we improved a lot over the last time we played them,” Ocosta head coach Mike King said.

Katelynn Denny converted a penalty kick in the 39th minute for Ocosta, which never led in the match.

Denny was cited for her defense and goalkeeper Kristi Raffelson finished with 18 saves.

On Thursday, Ocosta travels to Onalaska.
