Aberdeen’s Annie Troeh and Maddi Gore each scored a goal en route to a key 2-1 victory over WF West on Tuesday at Stewart Field in Aberdeen.

The Bobacats (7-2 overall, 5-2 2A Evergreen) swept the season series over WF West with two goals in the second half after falling behind 1-0 in the 36th minute.

After halftime, Aberdeen began to win more 50/50 balls and played a better possession game.

In the 44th minute, a shot by senior striker Maddi Gore rang off the post, but senior forward Annie Troeh was there to put the rebound into the net to tie the game at 1-1.

Aberdeen struck again right away when Troeh sent a cross into Gore who slotted it past the goal line for a 2-1 lead.

The Bobcats were able to control most of the possessions for the rest of the game, spending ample time in the Bearcats defensive end to clinch the victory and sole possession of second place in the 2A Evergreen Conference.

“We had moments of outstanding play, but too many times we were off on our first touch, put too much pace on a pass or missed an easy clear on defense,” said Aberdeen head coach Larry Fleming, who cited the play of Troeh, Gore and midfielder Marina Marll. “If we can limit our unforced errors we are really going to be tough to beat.”

Aberdeen sits a half-game ahead of WF West and Black Hills for the league’s No. 2 spot.

The Bobcats will host Black Hills at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Stewart Field.

Aberdeen’s JV team lost 6-0 on Tuesday.

The Eagles (10-2, 3-1) got on the board just before halftime when a recycled corner kick was sent back in by junior midfielder Macy Adams.

Eagles senior midfielder Grace Spencer got a head on the ball for the game’s only goal in the 40th minute.

Elma’s defense and midfield controlled the ball and held Shelton to a minute amount of offensive opportunities.

“Offensively, we created some good scoring chances but our final touch just let us down a little tonight,” Elma head coach Evan Valentine said, adding Shelton packed in its defenders in hopes of slowing down Elma’s high-flying offense. “But we got the win and the shutout and I’m proud of the team.”
