Montesano moved into the top spot in the 1A ranks with a 4-3 victory over WF West in a non-league matchup on Tuesday in Montesano.

Playing in a cold downpour, Montesano (14-1 overall) fell behind in the opening minutes of the game when Bearcat forward Zoey Robertson scored off an assist from Cameron Sheets in the third minute.

Monte responded when junior forward Mikayla Stanfield made a run down the wing and sent a cross in toward senior forward Lilly Causey, who punched in the one-timer to tie the game in the 11th minute.

Monte needed less than two minutes to take the lead in the second half when Stanfield scored in the 42nd minute.

Robertson would tie the game in the 51st minute but six minutes later Bulldogs midfielder Belle Estrada scored as Monte regained the lead at 3-2.

Estrada scored again in the 76th minute to give Monte a two-goal lead.

Robertson completed a hat trick — the first against Monte this season — with a goal in stoppage time.

“It was a difficult game to coach. There were a lot of things going on with the weather, the cold and Senior Night,” Monte head coach Fidel Sanchez said. “I’m just glad we were able to get the win.”

Montesano was outshot by WF West (9-7) 11-7 (8-3 on target) with Monte keeper Riley Timmons making five saves, including diving to deflect a hard shot away from the near post in the first half to keep the score at 1-1.

Montesano honored seniors Hannah Bruland, Causey, Estrada, Jaiden King, Vanna Prom, Hayden Prentice, and Emily Schallon on Senior Night.

Monte is currently ranked No. 1 in the latest WIAA 1A RPI rankings and will host Hoquiam in the regular-season finale at 7 p.m. Thursday.

The Bulldogs will then host the Seton Catholic-Tenino winner in the 1A District 4 Tournament at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 3.

Aberdeen locked up second place in the 2A Evergreen Conference with a 4-0 win over Shelton on Tuesday at Shelton High School.

The Bobcats (10-3, 8-3 2A Evergreen) had four different goal scorers and got a clean sheet from backup keeper Esmerelda Vega in the victory.

Maddi Gore scored off an assist from Andrea Meraz in the 22nd minute and went up 2-0 when Aman Cheema wrapped a corner kick around the front post for an Olympico goal five minutes before halftime.

Abby Mainio put in a rebound off a blocked Gore shot in the 53rd minute and was followed three minutes later by an Annie Troeh penalty-kick goal.

“Solid performance all around,” said Aberdeen head coach Larry Fleming, who commended the play of Marina Marll, Cheema, Zoe Troeh and Madison Marlow. “Great hustle and the improved possession helped the girls totally dominate tonight.”

In the junior varsity game, Aberdeen lost 1-0 despite having only 10 players available. Senior midfielder Alice Earley completed her high school career with “a fine performance,” according to Bobcats assistant coach Lindsey Scott.

Aberdeen closes out the regular season at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Rochester.

Elma 7, Eatonville 1

Elma got hat tricks from two different players in defeating Eatonville 7-1 on Tuesday at Davis Field in Elma.

The 10th-ranked Eagles (13-3, 6-2 1A Evergreen) trailed 1-0 before embarking on one of their goal-scoring explosions that have become synonymous with the program over the past two seasons.

Sophomore standouts Miley Seaberg and Beta Valentine connected on the Eagles first two goals, with Valentine sniping two long-range shots off of Seaberg assists in the 31st and 33rd minutes.

Senior midfielder Grace Spencer then scored on a Valentine assist to go up 3-1 in the 39th minute.

Leading 3-1 at the half, Spencer netted her second off an assist from Aaleigha Weld in the 60th minute.

Valentine scored her third of the game off an assist from junior defender Diana Guzman in the 66th minute.

Valentine wasn’t done, scoring what was arguably the highest degree of difficulty goal of the Eagles’ season. Elma midfielder Addison Burgher sent in a cross toward the Cruisers goal that was headed out by an Eatonville defender.

Reading the play, Valentine volleyed the ball in mid-air off her left foot, sending a hard shot into the back of the net from 16-yards out in what was described by the Elma coaching staff as a “technically difficult goal.”

Late in the game, Spencer stole the ball then ripped a shot for her third goal of the game and first hat trick of the season.

“Her game is so strong and she covers so much ground,” Elma head coach Evan Valentine said of Spencer. “For her to get a hat trick on Senior Night was really awesome.”

All of Elma’s goals were from approximately 16-20 yards out.

“When you have people that can shoot, you take what they give you,” Coach Valentine said. “You take what the defense gives you and we took it tonight.”

Elma honored seniors Iveth Torres, Nichole Johanson, Grace Spencer and Blanca Soto on Senior Night.

Elma completed its regular season schedule and will enter the 1A District 4 Tournament as the No. 2 league seed.

The Eagles will host the Trico league’s No. 3 team in a game scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 1 (time/opponent to be determined).
