Wildcats 5, Loggers 1
WESTPORT — Converting a series of crossing passes, Ocosta knocked off previously unbeaten Onalaska in a Central League match Tuesday at Westport.
All five Wildcat goals came on crosses.
“We controlled most of the possession,” Wildcat coach Mike King reported. “We had six girls with 30 touches. We had good passing, good communication.”
Ocosta (1-2, 3-2) opened the scoring in the third minute. Katelyn Denney crossed a pass over the Onalaska goalkeeper, with Kendal Wilson knocking it into an open net. Kjersten Hopfer converted a cross from Kennedy Moreno in the 29th minute to make it 2-0.
Onalaska (3-1) scored with two minutes remaining in the first half. But Denney took a cross from Hopfer to answer in the 44th minute.
Hopfer scored off a Rebecca Holm assist in the 68th minute and the two reversed the procedure with four minutes remaining.
Ocosta goalkeeper Kristi Raffelson made five saves, one on a penalty kick late in the first half. Mercedes Denney and Abriana Ness were cited for fine defense.
The Wildcats host Adna on Thursday.
Eagles 5, Bearcats 0
ELMA — Led by a hat trick from Brooke Sutherby, Elma defeated Chehalis in a non-league match at Davis Field on Monday.
The Eagles (5-2) got the game-winning run in the 25th minute when Alicia Hook sent a cross on to Sutherby who fired it home from around 10 yards out.
Peyton Elliott added the next two goals for the Eagles. Elliott chipped home a shot from in close in the 31st minute and converted a penalty kick in the 42nd minute after a Chehalis handball in the box.
Sutherby added her other two goals in the second half with her second goal coming on a penalty kick in the 51st minute and capping the hat trick in the 66th minute.
“We have been working on our passing game most of the season and it has been getting better every game,” Elma coach Scott Rockey said. “We are moving the ball out of the defense and playing the midfield well. The girls are starting to click and things are happening.”
The Eagles won the JV game, 6-5.
Elma travels to Rochester on Friday.
Knights 7, Grizzlies 0
VANCOUVER — King’s Way Christian took advantage of communication lapses by Hoquiam to roll past the Grizzlies in a non-league contest on Tuesday.
The Knights scored the go-ahead goal in the eighth minute and added a trio of goals late in the first half to make it 5-0 at halftime. King’s Way tacked on two more goals in the second half in the 52nd and 75th minutes.
“We knew going in that they were a very good team and it was going to be a tough test,” Hoquiam coach Drew Grannemann said. “The goals that we gave up were simple mistakes that are easily fixable. We didn’t get too down on ourselves and there were a handful of positives on the night.”
Grannemann said the Grizzlies struggled in defense with two players stepping into the lineup for the first time this season, but he was pleased with the effort of goalkeeper Jade Cox.
Hoquiam (1-4) travels to Castle Rock on Thursday.
