Gulls fly in three
WESTPORT — Led by the hitting of Hailey Smith, Raymond continued its run through its non-league schedule with a three-game sweep of previously unbeaten Ocosta, 25-15, 25-19, 25-21, on Thursday.
Smith led the Gulls (5-1) with 18 kills, seven service aces and 29 digs. Makayla Collins added six kills and five blocks and Winter Newman had 19 digs and three kills.
“To her credit, she was seeing the court really well and putting them where they weren’t,” Raymond head coach Bob Swogger said. “Overall, we served very well. We could have played better. I don’t know if we’ve met our potential yet, which is good. It is still early and you don’t want to peak this early in the season.”
“They can dig,” Ocosta head coach Barb Rasmus added. “We hit it 50 times and finished with just 19 kills. (Raymond is) all seniors and you can tell. They hit it at you every time.”
Erika Snider led the Wildcats (4-1) with seven kills and seven assists. Kaylee Barnum added seven kills, six blocks and three assists and Olivia Marsh had six blocks. Evalyn Marsh also served 100 percent on the night.
Raymond won the junior varsity match, 25-18, 25-19.
On Saturday, Raymond hosts its own tournament, with Ocosta entered as well.

“We served the ball well, which has been pretty typical for us,” Montesano coach Debbie Gibson said. “Our servers hit their areas well and kept them off-balance.”
The Bulldogs also took the JV match, 22-25, 25-18, 15-6. Montesano’s C squad downed Ilwaco’s junior varsity, 25-15, 25-20.
