ELMA — On Senior Night, Elma accomplished something it hasn’t done in more than a decade — clinch a share of the Evergreen 1A League title — with a rout over Tenino at Davis Field on Wednesday.
Trace Thompson, Adonas Torres and Martin Baltazar each scored twice for the Eagles (6-2, 8-7-1), who clinched a share of the league title, but won’t know their postseason seeding until later today.
A Hoquiam win over Forks today will give Elma the No. 2 playoff seed and top-seeded Hoquiam will share the league title. A Forks win will give Elma the No. 1 seed and the outright league title.
“A league title and playoff seeding are two different things,” Elma head coach Carson Seaberg said. “We’ve finished second overall multiple times, but to get a share of the title, that’s a big deal.”
Carlos Bautista, Colin Decker-Hicks, Jose Torres, Bastien Maseille and Alex Salas also scored for Elma. Thompson added three assists as well.
Next week, Elma will learn who and where it’ll go for its first contest in the District IV 1A tournament.

Bulldogs sweep Grizzlies
MONTESANO — Teegan Zillyett homered in each game as Montesano swept Hoquiam, 11-4 and 6-5, in an Evergreen 1A League doubleheader Wednesday at Vessey Field.
Zillyett’s two-run homer in the opener capped a four-run third inning that put the league champion Bulldogs (11-0, 11-3) ahead to stay. Matt Plato’s two-run double earlier in the inning had given Monte a permanent lead.
Kyle Trout had previously homered for the Bulldogs.
Nate Kloempken pitched a six-hitter to pick up the victory.
“I’ve got to give Hoquiam credit,” Monte coach Mike Osgood said. “They hit Kloempken hard and they played great defense. The home runs gave us the momentum we needed and we fed off that.”
The Bulldogs did all their scoring in the third inning of the nightcap. Zillyett’s three-run homer capped the inning, which also included Evan Bates’ two-run single.
Trailing 6-4 entering the seventh, the Grizzlies (3-8, 4-11) drew to within a run when Garrett Bradley’s RBI single drove in Marques Rivera. But second baseman Dakoyta Reininger started a double play that ended it.
Zillyett had three hits for the Bulldogs and Rivera and Bradley collected two hits apiece for Hoquiam.
Austin Peterson was the winning pitcher.
“I think in both games, Teegan Zillyett was kind of the fire for us,” Osgood said. “He had an amazing day at the plate.”
The Bulldog coach was less thrilled with his team’s defense. Montesano committed 10 errors in the twin bill, while Hoquiam played errorless ball.
The Grizzlies visit Elma for a critical contest today. On Friday, Montesano closes out league play at Forks.

Bobcats swept
Withstanding an Aberdeen comeback in the opening game, Tumwater swept the Bobcats, 12-11 and 21-0, in an Evergreen 2A Conference doubleheader Wednesday at the Bishop Athletic Complex.
Rallying from a 10-4 deficit, the Bobcats tied it at 10-all on Jillian Swor’s two-run double in the sixth inning.
The T-Birds, however, answered with two runs in the top of the seventh. Aberdeen’s Angel Jones scored on a passed ball in the bottom of that inning, but the Bobcats fell one run shy.
Reagan Glanz had four hits and Swor homered and drove in five runs in that contest.
“They played hard and showed heart,” AHS coach Scott Wilson said. “We worked through adversity. We had six errors and still lost by only one. In the second game, they just hit where we weren’t.”
Tumwater scored 17 runs in the first three innings of the nightcap, with Katie Cunningham driving in four runs.
The Bobcats (2-8, 2-9) host Black Hills on Friday.

Rockets 8, Grizzlies 0
Limiting Hoquiam to one hit, Castle Rock trounced the Grizzlies in a non-league contest Wednesday at Gable Park.
The Rockets slammed out 15 hits of their own, including a pair of homers.
“They hit the ball really well,” Grizzly coach Keith Reynvaan said. “Payton (Grizzly pitcher Payton Parshall) did a nice job of limiting the damage, except for the two long balls.”
Maya Jump collected Hoquiam’s lone hit (a first-inning single) and hit the ball well on her other two plate appearances.
Hoquiam’s Jenna Doll, Paige Folkers, Ashley Paladin and Emma Skinner were honored in Senior Day ceremonies.
The Grizzlies (4-6) close out Evergreen 1A League play today at Tenino.
