Grizzlies 73, Hyaks 62
Erupting for 27 points in the fourth quarter, Hoquiam turned back North Beach in a non-league contest Wednesday night at Hoquiam Square Garden.
Rayyon Dayton and Matt Brown registered double-doubles for the Grizzlies (4-10). Dayton scored as team-high 22 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. The brawny Brown had 20 rebounds and six assists to go with his 17 points.
Victor James contributed 21 points as the Grizzlies survived a 28-point assault from North Beach’s Steven Sotomish. The latter played for Hoquiam as a sophomore before transferring.
The still short-handed Grizzlies received some strong contributions from Kyle Larsen and Cameron Bumstead down the stretch. Larsen hit consecutive 3-point shots early in the fourth quarter to increase Hoquiam’s lead to eight points. Bumstead, who filled in at point guard, added a three-ball later in the period.
“That’s what really sparked the run,” Hoquiam coach Curtis Eccles said. He also cited the reserve work of Bryan Morales.
Marcus Pope scored 12 points and Rodney Washington 11 for North Beach (5-9).
The Hyaks visit Willapa Valley on Friday. The Grizzlies will be idle until Wednesday, when they resume league action at Montesano.

Grizzlies 66, Hyaks 29
Three players scored in double figures as Hoquiam trounced North Beach in a non-league game Wednesday night at Hoquiam Square Garden.
Hoquiam’s Rylee Vonhof attained a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. She also swiped four steals.
Karlie Krohn nearly followed suit with 12 points and eight boards. Maya Jump added 10 points for the Grizzlies (8-6).
Up 30-18 at the half, Hoquiam blew it open by outscoring the Hyaks 22-5 in the third quarter.
“We kind of had heavy legs, probably from (playing) the night before,” HHS coach Mark Maxfield said. “We opened the third quarter with a press and that got us going.”
Krohn and Jump each handed out six assists. Hoquiam’s Kylee Bagwell missed the game due to illness.
Mariah Vogler paced North Beach (3-10) with eight points.
The Grizzlies travel to King’s Way Christian on Friday. North Beach hosts Willapa Valley on Saturday.

CHEHALIS — Blasting out to a 36-5 lead after one quarter, powerful Chehalis beat Aberdeen in an Evergreen 2A Conference game Wednesday at Chehalis.
Reagan Glanz led the Bobcats with nine points. Further details were not reported.
The Bobcats (0-3, 1-12) host Rochester on Friday.
GIRLS BOWLING
Bobcats 5, T-Birds 0
Registering its highest pinfall total of the season in a dual match, Aberdeen blanked Tumwater in a girls bowling contest Wednesday at Rainier Lanes.
The Bobcats finished with a 1,622 total. Tumwater had 1,208.
Sydni Tingwall rolled a 306 series for two games by edge teammate Meghan Howell by one pin. Each bowled 159 games.
“We started the match ahead in the first frame and never looked back,” Aberdeen coach David Bruncke said.
Four members of the Bobcat jayvees also rolled personal-best scores.
Aberdeen will make its final home appearace today at home against Black Hills.

Bulldogs sweep
TENINO — Montesano swept Hoquiam, 39-37, and Tenino, 48-36, in a double dual match Wednesday at Tenino.
Aaron Lano, Kai Olson and Auggie Arreguin scored pins for the Bulldogs against Hoquiam in a match in which neither team was at full strength. Austin Miller, Antonio Garcia and Keegan Montgomery had pins for the Grizzlies.
Olson, Joel Pine, Brent Hollatz, Tanner Rossmaier and Cooper Johansson scored pins for the Bulldogs in the victory over Tenino.
Montesano hosts Centralia in a dual match tonight. The Grizzlies will compete in the Fife Lads and Lasses Tournament on Saturday.

CENTRALIA — Chehalis and Centralia swept Aberdeen in a double dual Wednesday at Centralia.
The Bobcats fell to Chehalis, 46-21, and to the Tigers, 42-28. Details were not reported.
