ONALASKA — Ocosta scored four late goals to break open a tight contest with Onalaska in Central 2B League girls soccer action Wednesday at Onalaska.
With the Wildcats up 2-0, Kjirstin Hopfer converted a through pass from Katelynn Denny in the 76th minute, then scored on a penalty kick two minutes later.
Hopfer fed Denny for a goal in the final minute before completing a hat trick just before the final whistle.
Denny fired in a rebound for the lone first-half goal. Teal Mitby made a penalty kick in the 63rd minute.
Ocosta goalkeeper Kristi Raffelson earned her sixth shutout of the season. Mercedes Denny, Abriana Ness, Ryann Raffelson and Kianna Battiste were cited for fine defense.
The Wildcats (5-5, 7-5) allowed only two shots on-goal, both from long range.
Ocosta hosts Adna on Monday.
VOLLEYBALL
Indians win in three
PUYALLUP — Jessica Sanchez served 14 aces as South Bend breezed past Chief Leschi, 25-9, 25-5, 25-10, in a Pacific 2B League match Wednesday at Puyallup.
Sanchez also delivered six kills for the Indians (1-3, 3-7). Riley Hampton served 12 aces and did not miss a serve. Hannah Byington contributed 13 assists.
“The girls did a great job keeping their level of play up and (maintaining) consistency throughout the game,” South Bend coach Tricia Needham said.
South Bend also took the JV match, 25-8, 25-20. Stephanie Campos and Zaira Medina were commended for fine play.
The Indians return home Tuesday to host rival Willapa Valley.
CROSS COUNTRY
Aberdeen meet
Aberdeen’s Faith Cardenas won the girls portion of a three-school meet with Rochester and North River on Wednesday at Makarenko Park in Cosmopolis.
Cardenas covered the 5,000-meter course in 21:37.2. Rochester’s Michala Lowry was second in 23:46.22. Aberdeen’s Mercy Johnson was fifth in 26:27.84.
Rochester’s Kelin Pasko easily captured the boys race in 17:09.89. North River’s Forrest Carbaugh placed second in 18:22.44 and Aberdeen’s Jordan McKinney fourth in 18:24.93.
Rochester’s boys beat Aberdeen, 20-41, in the boys meet. There were no complete girls teams.
