Vikings 52, Comets 40
NASELLE — Putting together one of its best games of the season, Willapa Valley took full control of this non-league contest at Naselle on Wednesday.
The Vikings (5-5 overall) led 52-33 with 90 seconds left in the contest and relied upon their defense to hold the Comets to 25 percent from the field overall, including 6-for-26 from behind the 3-point arc.
“We’ve been looking to play a complete game and this was the closest complete game we’ve played so far this season,” Valley head coach Jay Pearson said. “We played solid team defense and played well offensively, except for a 4-minute stretch in the second quarter.”
Ryon Ashley and Walker Oblad led the Vikings with 22 points each, with Ashley adding 11 rebounds for a double-double. Pearson cited Ashley for his hustle and noted Oblad had his best game of the season.
On Saturday, Willapa Valley hosts rival Raymond.
