Raymond senior Tre’ Seydel missed the bulk of his junior season after suffering an injury early in the season.

In the Seagulls home opener on Wednesday, Seydel made his long-awaited return.

He made quite the statement.

Seydel scored 35 points and grabbed 14 rebounds as Raymond upended Montesano 73-41 in the season-opener for both teams at Raymond High School.

“(Seydel) played a fantastic game,” Raymond head coach Derek Rask said. “This was a great opener for us. Our kids were locked in and ready to go. They were excited to play and kick off the season the right way.”

Behind Seydel’s resounding performance and a solid game from Adrian Quintana (17 points), Raymond dominated over the first three quarters. The Seagulls led 20-7 after one period and, after outscoring Montesano by 14 points in the third quarter, held a 64-25 lead heading into the fourth.

“I thought we did a nice job of setting the tone early in the first quarter, defensively. That led to positive offensive. We kept that momentum throughout,” said Rask, whose team had 15 steals on the evening. “I thought our team defense was pretty disruptive as well.”
