Aberdeen sent its seniors out with a victory in their final home match with a win over Centralia in an Evergreen 2A Conference dual at Sam Benn Gym on Wednesday.
Seniors Alex Wilson (130) and Eleanore Machowek (170) pinned their opponents to earn wins in front of the home crowd. Aberdeen’s other two victories in the seven contested matches came from a tech fall by Faith Cardenas at 100 pounds and a first-round pin by Camryn Cook.
“It was a good night for my girls who put four years in the program,” Aberdeen coach Craig Yakovich said. “We had a couple matchups that we wanted to see before districts to see how the competition worked out. In a couple of matches that were supposed to be tougher the girls wrestled really well.”
Aberdeen received points for forfeits at five weights, including 235 with senior Emily Wharton.
Aberdeen will be back in action today when they square off against Hoquiam and Forks at Hoquiam Square Garden.

CENTRALIA — Centralia ruled the paint and the perimeter to cruise past Aberdeen in an Evergreen 2A Conference game on Wednesday.
The Tigers worked the ball inside to take an 11-point lead after one quarter and, when Aberdeen switched defensive strategies, Centralia heated up to hit 14 3-pointers in the game.
“Their size really bothered us early in the game and we had to switch our defense into a 2-3 zone earlier than we would like,” Aberdeen coach Mark Buckman said. “In the zone, we allowed too many open threes. They had 14 threes on the night and seven in the first half. We had good looks, but unfortunately our shots weren’t falling and theirs were.”
The Bobcats were led by Victor Gomez, who finished with 10 points, six rebounds and five assists, and Braden Castleberry-Taylor, who added 12 points. Jake Metke hit three 3-pointers to add nine points for Aberdeen.
Aberdeen (2-2, 6-7) travels to Tumwater on Friday.
