Weightlifters from both Montesano and North Beach high schools competed at the Washington State High School Powerlifting State Championships on Saturday, May 22, in Shelton.
North Beach lifter Jonathan Jerome and Montesano’s Alex Sweet had the highest placement of any Harbor competitors, placing second in the boys individual 242-pound and 198-pound weight class, respectively.
Montesano’s boys team scored 26 points to place second behind host Shelton (58 points).
Monte was led by Sweet and got third-place finishes from Sean Ryker (123 pounds), Jared Whisenhunt (165) and Jayden McElravy (198).
In the girls competition, North Beach’s Maryah Wisner earned a top-three spot with a third-place finish in the 165-pound class.

Aberdeen suffered its third loss in a row on Wednesday in Aberdeen.
The Bobcats (2-6 overall, 1-6 2A Evergreen) were outscored in every quarter and trailed 28-16 at halftime after failing to score in double digits in each of the first two periods.
Angel Baltazar scored 18 points while Jayden Watson added 10 points to lead Aberdeen, which shot 16-for-47 (34%) as a team, including 3-for-15 (25%) from the 3-point line.
Aberdeen also committed 17 turnovers in the game.

Willapa Valley 63, Mossyrock 58
Willapa Valley jumped out to a sizable first-half lead then held on for a victory over host Mossyrock.
Willapa Valley (8-3 overall, 7-1 1B Columbia Valley) had a great start to the game en route to a 35-22 lead at the half.
But turnovers in the third quarter led to easy transition buckets for Mossyrock, which climbed back into the game in the second half.
Leading by one point with 42 second left to play, Willapa Valley’s Tyler Adkins made a front-end free throw but missed the second.
Joseph Pulsipher snatched the rebound away from Mossyrock and was able to get the ball safely out to Adkins, as Mossyrock was forced to foul.
Adkins hit the subsequent two free throws to secure the victory.
Adkins led Willapa Valley with 27 points, including six 3-pointers in a shooting performance that drew praise from head coach Jay Pearson.
“He went off tonight,” Pearson said. “He was great from the perimeter.”
Will Clements scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds for Willapa Valley.
Pulsipher led Willapa Valley with nine rebounds.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Raymond 56, Forks 27
Raymond took control of its fate with a dominant victory over Forks in Raymond.
Seagull standouts Kyra Gardner and Karsyn Freeman led the way in a battle of two teams tied atop the 2B Pacific League standings.
Gardner scored 22 points on 7-of-18 shooting — including four treys — grabbed eight rebounds, dished out six assists and swiped eight steals in another all-around performance by the all-state junior guard.
The Seagulls outscored Forks 20-5 to seize control of the game in the first quarter, with Gardner leading the way with 14 points.
Freeman, who has emerged as a consistent second scorer for the Seagulls, added 16 points — 11 in the second half — to go along with five steals.
Hannah Miller and Kyndal Koski added five points each for the Seagulls.
Raymond’s defense held Forks to just eight points in the first half, essentially putting the game out of reach by halftime with a 30-8 lead.
With the victory, Raymond is now 7-1 in league play and sits alone in first place with three games left on the schedule.
